Overview

Enter the time machine and embark on a journey to the UNESCO listed Kutna Hora, the town from the middle ages, which provided the top quality silver for about 70% of the European coins of the era! Get spooked in the Sedlec Ossuary decorated by bones of 40,000 people, marvel at the richly decorated Cathedral of St. Barbara, one of the grandest cathedrals in Central Europe and take a photo by the "instagrammatic" Santini's round stairs in the sterner, yet equally impressive, Church of the Assumption of Our Lady or be awed by the majestic beauty of other sacral structures in this once-famous town. And you will create your own souvenir when we will show you the traditional way to make a coin during the tour of the Italian Court, which served as a mint, Royal Palace and then eventually prison and school (concurrently!). Its ceremonial hall and the chapel will take your breath away!

Itinerary

  • St Barbara's Cathedral

    Kutna Hora became extremely rich thanks to the abundance of high-quality silver mined in the town. This allowed the construction of such amazing sacral structures as the gothic cathedral of St.Barbara, the main dominant of Kutna Hora, the biggest cathedral in Central Europe. Richly decorated, devoted to St.Barbara, the patron of miners (and also the victims of a swift death).

  • The Cemetery Church of All Saints with the Ossuary

    The church was built upon on the ground sprinkled with the holy soil brought in from Jerusalem, therefore the cemetery around it became in high demand. When the capacity ceased to suffice in times of the Plague and the Hussite Wars, a blind monk started arranging bones of 40,000 people into pyramids. Later, when the chapel became a property of the Schwarzenberg noble house, the bones were rearranged into ornaments, coats of arms, chandeliers etc. in order to honor the dead and remind the living of our own mortality. NOTE: Effective from 2020, taking photos is forbidden.

    Make your own coin and bring it home as a souvenir! The Italian Court served as a mint, Royal Palace and later also as a prison and school (concurrently!). We will also take you to the luxurious audience hall and the richly decorated chapel.

    The Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady and Saint John the Baptist may look a somewhat stern compared to the Cathedral of St. Barbara since the Jesuits did not indulge in showing their wealth through rich decorations. Nonetheless, the tall interior designed by the world-famous Santini is stunning its own way. Do not miss the chance to climb up to the upper floor via the amazing spiral stairs!

After four weeks touring Europe we organised a private tour to Kutna Hora. Organising via the internet was easy and our driver, Roman, was waiting for us as per our arrangements. A beautiful car was waiting for us and Roman spoke very good English and was a pleasure to spend the day with. No crowds on buses was a great decision. Roman dropped us back at Prague International Airport for us to drive home. thank you.

Another excellent tour with guide Pavel and Petr! This tour was a truly private and engaging experience. We were picked up at a time of our convenience in a Mercedes by a licensed guide and driver to embark on the hour long drive to Kutna Hora. Due to a wedding at St Barbara's, our first stop was the fascinating bone chapel, which was truly unique. After this we were driven to the Italian Court mint museum, where we were given a tour by the museum guide as the only two English speaking visitors we had a private guide in the museum as well, interesting and I learned a lot. After this Pavel recommended an excellent place for lunch traditional and very cheap as well. We even got to stop in the beautiful gothic St. Jacob's church after this, as we continued our walk to St. Barbara's. The views from the cathedral are stunning, and the inside was equally amazing. Having a private, friendly, knowledgable guide at these attractionsNo I mean just keep telling me 15 mins every so often to keep me going till i leave at 5 made things special. We learned so much, took great photos and had summ amazing time. I highly recommend this company to make your trip to Prague special. Also a great way to avoid the crowdedness of large tours, and much better than a bus/ train ride, truly stylish

We had an amazing tour! Our tour guide, Blanca, was terrific. She shared lots of history and interesting stories about life in Prague, and the tour of Kutna Hora was one of the best of our 27 day trip. We were lucky to be in Kutna Hora during a folklore festival and got to enjoy that along with our tour of the town. Given the 100 degree temps that broke a 100 year record, she recommended a silver mining tour rather than the tour we had planned, as it would be cooler. It worked out perfectly and we appreciated her suggestion. This was a highlight of our trip!
