Overview

Ready for Adventure!! On our safari tour you have the opportunity to learn about the history of the Moorish city of Silves and its important historical facts, and then immerse yourself in the picturesque landscape of the mountains behind the city. A lot of history awaits you, an incredible plant world and a good adrenaline rush on the narrow pass roads.

We meet right behind the restaurant "O Alambique". There is a gravel parking area for 3 vehicles. If desired, a pick-up or another meeting point can be requested separately.

    Our tour takes you past some of the highlights of the city of Silves. Here you can see, for example, the "Ponte Romana", the old bridge of the city, the Moorish Castello, to the former mosque of the current cathedral of the city. You will learn a lot of interesting facts and historical facts about the former capital of the Algarve and its historical importance. Depending on the weather situation, our tour leads south/west along the Rio Arade towards Portimao or north towards Monchique. On both routes you will enjoy unique impressions that will fascinate you with the flora of the Algarve with its many different trees and plants. Our routes lead over narrow mountain passes to incredible places where great photo perspectives await you. But don't worry. The adrenaline rush doesn't stop there. Many of our customers say this tour is the "most romantic roller coaster" ride they have ever experienced.

  • Castelo de Silves

    The Castle of Silves Fotopunkt (A motif straight out of a fairy tale) Built on a hilltop in the region's reddish sandstone, the castle, in an irregular rectangular plan, consists of a crenellated ring of walls with several half-height towers, but only one gate, in front of which is a bronze statue of King Sancho I.

    At the eastern end of the town is the Cross of Portugal, an approx. 3 m high cross made of light-colored limestone with late Gothic and Manueline motifs. Christ is depicted on one side of the cross, and a pieta on the other. It is believed to have been created in the 15th century, but its exact provenance is unknown.

  • Barragem da Ribeira do Arade

    The Arade Dam (Portuguese Barragem do Arade) is located in the Faro district of the Algarve region of Portugal. It dams the river Arade to a reservoir (port. Albufeira da Barragem do Arade). The town of Silves is located about eight kilometers southwest of the Arade dam. Upstream is the Funcho dam. The Arade Dam was built from 1944 to 1956 during the reign of António de Oliveira Salazar.[1][2] It is used for irrigation and, to a lesser extent, for electricity generation. The dam is owned by the Associação de Regantes e Beneficiários de Silves, Lagoa e Portimão.[3]

This was our first trip to Portugal and we stayed a few days in the Algarve and a few in Lisbon. We had a boat tour of the caves and it was more expensive and just ok. This Jeep tour of Silves was provided by Felix. He deserves 10 stars!!! He customized our private tour and showed us places we didn’t know we wanted to see; he also showed us around our Portimaou area a little. He spent an extra hour or two over with us.

Brilliant personalised tour! What a fantastic guy Felix is, he got us out of our hotel resort and on the tour at very short notice. Felix filled the tour with history, mountains, breathtaking views and an abundance of local knowledge just as requested. My kids absolutely loved the off-roading!! I’m so glad I looked online for a local tour and did not go through the holiday rep.

We took the 3,5 hour buggy tour. It was really nice. Felix and his daughter luiza received us at their farmhouse where the buggy was ready for us. We took a tour around all nice places in the area. Felix could tell us a lot about the history of all places and also gave us some really good tips for going out.

We found this experience by chance and thanks to that we have spent an incredible morning, very very funny, but if I have to point out something, it is how great people Felix and his son Elias are, more than our guides they were friends. In short: it was amazing
