Wow, crazy traffic to and from Kandy. The local buses speed and are have their own road rules. I could see myself on the RH passenger side being wiped out, but thankfully Dimuth was a good driver and got us back safely to the port in the thunderstorm.
It’s over 3 hours each way to Kandy, so we didn’t have a lot of time there, just mostly nice viewpoints, around the lake and Big Buddha. It isn’t really the highlands and is still very hot. Lunch was good in a restaurant dedicated to tour buses and day trippers.
The Spice Garden 23 is OK, but don’t believe the owner’s claims of university qualified masseurs and government owned/sanctioned operations. Head, neck, backs and hands massage is ‘complimentary’ but a substantial tip is expected. Products other than straight spices are expensive and unproven. It’s one of those commission stops.
The elephant walk to the river for a bath is a nice spectacle at Pinnewalla and we enjoyed the tea factory visit, where we bought too much! Good gifts though.
