Our electric yacht is 100% sustainable, emissions and noise free, making it climate safe, and Lake Taupo’s best sailing experience.
We have been sailing to the iconic Maori Rock Carvings since 1982!
This all-year-round activity offers relaxation, fun and adventure on the water, the Kiwi way. Get right up close to this culturally significant 46 foot (14m) high rock art.
Excellent, amusing and current commentary on lake, the volcanics and the carvings. Free refreshments including tea, coffee, hot chocolate and mulled wine (winter only). We are licenced but you are welcome to bring your own. BYO
Swimming is encouraged.
Sail Barbary is the only boat in Taupo rated 'Qualmark Gold' by Tourism NZ under the 'sustainable business' category.
Meeting points
We are located in front of Stir Cafe - a dark grey caravan converted into a cafe. Look for the tall white and green blade flag this is where you need to meet, Berth 9 and 10.

Great way to spend an afternoon. A lovely cruise on a nice quiet sailboat out to the Maori carvings and back. Great to be out on the lake on a sunny day. Chris was a delightful host and made us all very comfortable.

Beautiful sail on electric yacht to see the Māori carvings. Captain was very informative and made many passes to make sure everyone had a great view! Small group (around 18 people). Definitely a great way to spend some time on Lake Taupo

Stunning day sailing with not motor running!!
Very informative skipper and safety brief was great.
The opportunity to swim was a plus and the swim was wonderful.
Scenery was great and a nice way to be out on the lake.
