We just completed our day-trip to Tangier. Although the trips usually start in Malaga, we arranged to be picked in Alhaurin el Grande, which was very helpful.
Our driver Aissam was waiting at the pick-up point when we arrived. The ride to Tarrifa was safe and efficient. There was a stop near Gibraltar for coffee and a quick bite, before being dropped at the entry of the ferry across the straights. If you not used the ferry before, I will offer this pro tip - once you board, go immediately to the passport control sign and get in line. There is some paperwork that has to be processed before arrival in Tagier, and the line fills up fast.
We were met in Tangier at the ferry arrivals door by our guide Ali and driver Akmed. The tour content was great for first-time visitors to the country and the continent.
Ali provides tons of local cultural info, along with ton of history, including the various peoples who migrated or fled to Tangier over the centuries. The breakfast and lunch stops included delicious and authentic Morrocan foods at clean, friendly restaurants.
The stops at Hercule's cave and the markets were a couple of our favorites. Beware of Muhammed in the carpet shop though! If you're not careful, you could go home with a couple of hand
tied carpets (shipped free to your home address duty-free).
In the end, it was a great way to spend a day of our vacation in Spain, and check off another continent from our travel goals.
