Overview

Our meeting time of 8:30 is the optimal time as we are one of the first to get on and usually get back before the strong afternoon winds pick up. Kayaking on lake Yellowstone on a old volcano is truly one of the top five things to do while in the park. With our small group tours we are able to personalize the tour and really show our guests this place in a unique way. All of our kayaks have a rudders which is very important on windy days and is a great way to steer with ease. Our naturalist guides/level 3 ACA certified trip leaders are in the top of their field and have years of experience, this helps when talking about Yellowstone as a naturalist and safety as a seasoned guide. Kayaking past the west thumb geyser and Potts geyser basin is a truly special way see this area of Yellowstone lakes thermal features, With our fast and stable kayaks we are able to cover more ground safety to optimize guests overall experience

Meeting points

Meet at the Grant Village Marina/boat ramp. When you turn into Grant Village, go past the ranger station. Take a right after you pass the gas station onto Grant Marina road. Go a 1/4 mile down the road. Turn left at the “t”. You will see our Shurr Adventures van and our kayaks will be on the beach.

Itinerary

Paddling amongst and over the thermal features on Yellowstone Lake is truly special! Kayak with our naturalist guides and learn about Yellowstone Lake, its surrounding wildlife, and the geological history that shaped the lake and its ecosystems. This tour will help give our guests a broader view of the lake area and the southern/central part of Yellowstone National Park. This is an excellent way to see these natural geothermal wonders up close and personal, without having to trudge through a crowded boardwalk! These high altitude lakes are also a good water source for a variety of birds, elk, deer, and once in a great while a bear! We will be on the lookout for these animals as we kayak! This is truly an unbeatable experience and an excellent way to get away from the crowds.

I finally found some time to come to the website and write this review I promised to my friend Q , our guide on Aug 29, 2024 Yellowstone lake kayak half day tour. Sorry Q - if I've kept you waiting and even felt disappointed, I apologize. This is one of the highlights for our entire Yellowstone vacation. Of course, the entire Yellowstone is an amaze to me, yet, this Yellowstone lake experience is such an incredible lasting memory, all thanks to our extraordinary guide Q (sorry I forgot how to spell your full name), and of course the natural beauty and vast serenity of this lake in the morning setting. Q is such a pleasant and friendly guide, and also knowledgeable and prepared. He is open to any questions, and shared with us a lot of first hand experience of the park. We had learned a lot from him about the nature history and past and current environment elements of the lake and its surroundings. He also shared his own personal experience, his love for nature, his passion for bringing meaning and value to people, we talked about his family, his future plan, etc. And of course, we shared quite a lot of our own background and our own views of many things as well. Being able to have someone to chat in such a wonder of nature setting is a life experience. In the end, I felt we not just had a wonderful tour, but made a friend. Shurr Adventures Kayak Tour on Yellowstone Lake

We very much enjoyed our kayak tour on Yellowstone Lake. Our guide, Joe, was very knowledgeable and provided interesting historical information and stories. The kayaking was awesome in this beautiful area. Enjoyed seeing the bubbling thermal waters in the Yellowstone Thumb area as well as all the water fowl. As residents of Florida, we were interested that Shurr Adventures also provides kayak tours (in the winter) in the Everglades area. We will definitely be looking into joining them for a tour there.

This was perhaps my favorite activity at Yellowstone! Our guide was Ted and he was knowledgeable, as well as entertaining. After fighting crowds, searching for parking spaces, etc. This was the perfect, relaxing, end of our Yellowstone week. Definitely recommend!

We loved this activity and consider it a “must-do” at the park. It’s a great way to take in the wildlife and see the geysers from another view. While it was cold in the morning (50 degrees) it warmed up quickly and the lake was calm. Our guide,Joe, was really informative and had trivia questions for us. The entire tour was from 8:30-12, we got a break on the shore, had a snack and took off again. Highly recommend!
