Overview

Explore our 5-acre oasis at Kiwi Park. A family-owned and operated wildlife centre in the heart of Queenstown, dedicated to saving our endangered wildlife species. We have over 20 species of native wildlife including New Zealand's national icon, the Kiwi and our living fossil, the Tuatara. Kiwi Encounters: Enjoy an unforgettable experience viewing Kiwi while learning about these fascinating birds from our professional wildlife team. Times: 10am, 11am, 12:15pm, 1pm, 2:15pm, 3pm, 4:15pm & 5pm (Oct-April) 10am, 12:15pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3:45pm & 4.30pm (May - Sep) Conservation Show: Get up close and personal with our most fascinating, endangered wildlife in this entertaining 30 -minute free flight show. Times: 11:30am, 1:30pm & 3 pm (Oct-April) 11:30am & 3pm (May- Sep) Important: Please arrive at least 15 minutes before Kiwi Encounter, Subject to availability. Maximum occupancy in Kiwi House 50 people. Kiwi House open at all times outside Kiwi Encounters for viewing.

Lovely trip to the zoo

Loved this zoo so much, it was different than expected, but in a good way. It felt like a nature walk, or a hike, with animal exhibits along the way. Was very peaceful and lovely the whole time. We loved seeing the Kiwi show too, just be warned that it gets pretty packed during the show, but when we went in before the show started, we had the place to ourselves and could see them perfectly. Definitely make this a part of your NZ trip.

Park is located on the side of a mountain, hence, there is a lot of steep walking up and down the pathways. That said, the exhibits are vey interesting and well done. Live show gives the opportunity to see some of the native birds outside of their confines.

A beautiful spot of ranquility on the edge of bustling Queenstown, filled with some of New Zealand's amazing wildlife. We only had a couple of hours here but could happily have stayed longer

Kiwi Park has greatly expanded since my last visit 20+ years ago. They added a Honey Bee Centre where you can taste several varieties of New Zealand honey and see a transparent bee hive. I like the cute kea couple I saw. Keas are the only Alpine Parrot and are quite intelligent and mischievous. Another highlight is the juvenile Tuatara, hatched in 1998. The Tuatara is the only survivor of an ancient class of Reptiles, unchanged for over 230 million years. I saw the Wildlife Conservation Show twice since I had plenty of time to explore Kiwi Park. They brought out different animals in each show. At the first show, we met "Tane" the Tuatara. We also met "Boots", a Buff Weka. Never leave an open backpack where a Weka can get at it. The most common thieves in New Zealand are birds. Be sure to reserve your place for the live Kiwi presentation. Of course, no photos were allowed in the nocturnal Kiwi enclosure.

This a lovely place to spend a couple of hours. Its's very well maintained and the staff are well-informed on local wildlife. The kiwis were very active.
