Overview

Experience a unique tour of the WWI sites around Ieper (Ypres), guided by a historian, who will not only take you to the museums but also let you explore a bit of the local culture and partake in a unique experience. All food and drinks are provided by us (lunch and snacks). Bring your camera and comfortable hiking shoes. The minimum age for this tour is 16.

  • Hooge Crater Museum

    The Hooge Crater Museum has become Belgium's best private WWI museum. With its life-size reconstructions of World War I battle scenes, its extensive collection of weapons, equipment and photographs, this museum is a must see during our tour of the Ieper region. The Wolf will explain various scenes and answer all your questions.

  • Hill 62 (sanctuary Wood) Canadian Memorial

    Sanctuary Wood is said to have earned its name in October 1914 when it was used as a 'sanctuary' to stragglers waiting to rejoin their units. The family who owns the land realised at an early stage that the wood would be of great interest to pilgrims and tourists. The trench lines and dugouts were enclosed, and the shattered trees fenced in. Today Sanctuary Wood is considered by many to offer the finest preserved trenches on the Western Front. Aside from battlefield artifacts the interior of the museum offers 3D stereoscopic photographs of highly graphic scenes taken during the war.

  • Menin Gate Memorial

    The Menin Gate can be considered the overall symbol for World War I, but the Menin Gate is also a memorial to the missing. Inside are the names of some 55,000 Commonwealth soldiers who were reported missing before Aug. 15, 1917. Every evening at 8 p.m. sharp, the "Last Post" resounds under the Menin Gate. Daily activities come to a halt for a moment to remember the fallen soldiers of WWI.

  • In Flanders Fields Museum

    The museum presents the story of the First World War in the West Flanders front region. It is located in the rebuilt Cloth Hall of Ypres, an important symbol of wartime hardship and later recovery. From this symbolic accommodation, the museum also pays great attention to the contemporary landscape as one of the last tangible witnesses of the war history. During your visit and after climbing the restored Belfry tower you can look out over the city and the surrounding battlefields.

    Experience the life of the military during WWI in our dugout and trenches. Using unique objects, we take you on a journey through the Battle of Passchendaele.

  • Tyne Cot Cemetery

    It is now the largest Commonwealth war cemetery in the world in terms of burials. There are now 11,961 Commonwealth servicemen of the First World War buried or commemorated in Tyne Cot Cemetery. The TYNE COT MEMORIAL forms the north-eastern boundary of Tyne Cot Cemetery and commemorates nearly 35,000 servicemen from the United Kingdom and New Zealand who died in the Ypres Salient.

Absolutely Outstanding Day

We had a wonderful day out with our guide István. We travelled to lots of the WW1 sites and had some interesting and informative discussions on the political and economic situation around the time of the WW1. Visiting the actual sites, trenches, cemeteries and various museums was moving and was a reminder to us of what occurred and the lives lost during this period. The daily living conditions and hardships were evident in the multiple photographs and stories in the areas. We will definitely use István on our next trip which will cover WW2 sites.

This was the best day we have spent so far!! Ishtvan our guide and driver was fabulous. Caring, patient and very flexible. I would give him a 10+ if possible. It was just my husband and myself so he was so flexible. We wanted to view the grave of the greatest General in WW2, George S. Patton so we first went to Luxembourg then onto Bastogne for all the Battle of the Bulge museums, barracks and foxholes in the Ardennes Forrest! He was fully equipped with all the information, cold drinks and the best snacks ever. We were sad to say goodbye to our new friend but I cannot recommend him enough. You will not be disappointed. Thank you so much, Ishtvan see you the next time we come to Europe!!!

Stephen was great!!! He picked us up outside our hotel and was full of extra information and places to see. He took us to some pretty incredible places. We really got to experience WWI from several perspectives. Lunch was fantastic and the museum at Passendale was a great topper! You can’t go wrong here!!!

Best Tour of WW1 sites in Belgium

Istvan was a friendly, attentive and knowledgeable tour guide. We were particularly interested in WW1 sites of significance to Australian history and he was able to adapt his tour to our needs. The transport was very comfortable and we also received a lovely bottle of wine. We highly recommend this tour
