The best way to see The Last Supper. I am not usually the type of person that likes tours - I prefer to do my own thing. However, the website for The Last Supper seems to be built to be deliberately confusing, and to prevent people from buying tickets to it. I tried to decipher it for ages, but could not come to page where it actually let you buy some tickets.
So, I searched for tours and found this one. When I was there they had a bike with the “Wander In Italy” flag on it, so you knew it was them. It’s stressful having to continuously scan the square for them though if you’re early, it’s a prime target for pickpockets so be careful. Anyway, they turned up and we got our earpieces. Our guide introduced herself and talked us through the day, and gave clear instructions about entering to see The Last Supper. Do not go into any ticket offices first. Wait until you have joined the group and your guide till take you all in together.
Walking into the empty refractory where The Last Supper is is a bucket list moment. You’ve seen it a million times before in pictures, but nothing compares to the real thing. It was amazing.
Our guide was extremely knowledgable and talked us through many aspects of the painting.
After our time slot was up, you then go on a tour through Milan, passing the Castle, the Duomo and the shopping gallery. It lasts about 3 hours in total so be prepared with comfortable clothing. We wore respectful clothing (my husband wore jeans) as usually you are not allowed in churches in shorts, however, most of our group was wearing shorts and they were allowed in without having to cover up. Still, I’d be better safe than sorry.
An amazing guide and an amazing tour. Well worth it!
