Not sure how therapeutic this process actually is but definitely a bit of a giggle. Lots of laughter from everyone coated in mud and then the sulphur pool was very relaxing with lots of chat from all the people lying around. Professional staff who looked after us well. Definitely worth a go.

We did the self guided walk all of it in about an hour, got there at 10 and plenty of opportunities for photos with few people around. Were given opportunity to join guided walk but we opted to go alone. Really nice walk not really challenging but it did get a little warm near the thermal activity.also did the mud bath and the different pools loved it what an experience. All the staff very helpful. Very where very clean definitely worth the cost. Plenty of parking

We had the best guide we had ever had on any trip for any holiday! He was amazing and brought the whole experience to life with his animation! Just ask for the young guide with the longest Māori name and they will know who you are talking about. After that the mud bath and spa were fantastic, efficiently run, great fun and should not be missed! Yes there is a sulphur smell but it’s not that bad- we took old bathing gear and threw them away afterwards - it’s all part of the experience! Hells Gate is the only thermal area in Rotorua where you can get interactive with the mud and pools!

We spent 4 hrs at Hell's Gate as a relaxing afternoon. Michael was a wonderful and knowledgeable customer service agent at the front desk who greeted us. We did the mud spa first and it was awesome. We participated in the wood carvings. JD gave us our walking tour of the Geothermals and had fantastic stories to share with us. It rained the entire day but it was still fun to do the entire Hell's Gate experience.

We did the self guided tour, you get a map with information about each of the areas / pools which told you all you need to know. The smell is not for the weak stomach folk out there. It's an easy walk but is on uneven ground. We then did the wooden carving which was fun. The mud bath & thermal baths were good for relaxing in. You can hire swimwear & towels if required. We took our own swim wear which washed up like new so font be too worried about ruining your swimwear. We saw one young child there - my personal opinion is that the pools are not suitable for under 5's as they want to swim or open their mouths in the water (it's what this child did) it's strictly no swimming only bathing due to the risk of splashing in your eyes. A great experience for all our family.
