Overview

Gain entry into the Healesville Sanctuary, an animal refuge crawling with creatures that are all native to Australia. Among the many family-friendly activities to do here: come face to face with an iconic (and usually shy) platypus, meet the veterinarians who help rehabilitate the animals, stroll through an aviary filled with parrots, and observe dingoes up close. Set in a natural bushland environment, Healesville Sanctuary is lined with paths that lead to areas where you can spy animals like dingoes, wombats, wallabies, kangaroos, and more than 200 different species of birds in a natural environment. Don't miss one of the most popular shows called Spirits in the Sky. In this flight arena, you get a close-up look at native parrots, birds of prey and other majestic birds.

Four generation experience, family day to see the sanctuary that has been around for a very long time.

I have visited a few times it has grown just as interesting as it was when I was little. I took family to have my experiences.

A day with the animals

The Healesville Sanctuary is absolutely worth the trip! It’s a fantastic place to see and learn about Australia’s unique wildlife. From kangaroos and koalas to platypuses and emus, the variety of animals is amazing. Beyond the wildlife, the sanctuary is great for families—there are lovely areas for kids to play and plenty of spots to stop and enjoy a picnic. One of the highlights was definitely the bird show. The birds were incredible, and the show was both informative and entertaining. The entire experience felt immersive, and it’s clear the sanctuary is dedicated to conservation and education. Recommed going in the morning. Highly recommend visiting—it’s an unforgettable experience for anyone interested in Australia’s native animals!

A fun way to see native animals

This is a pleasant way to spend the day, seeing a wide variety of native animals in a well-laid out site. The veterinary hospital allows visitor to watch some of the workings without a separate ticket, and the animal shows were entertaining and educational.

What an amazing way to see the animals are closing in person but yet they have a lot of room in their environment so it felt natural. Love this.!! did not have time to go to the outback or other areas to give these animals. Highly recommend and the money goes to a good cause animals.

Family day enjoyed very much, pity it rained. Well worth the money, thanks to all the great staff. Not many people there due to weather so all exhibits easily viewed and appreciated.
