Propylaea (Pass By)
The Propylaea was the monumental gateway to the Acropolis of Athens and was one of several public works commissioned by the Athenian leader Pericles in order to rebuild the Acropolis a generation after the conclusion of the Persian Wars.

It has a prominent position on a steep bastion at the southwest corner of the Acropolis to the right of the entrance, the Propylaea. In contrast to the Acropolis proper, a walled sanctuary entered through the Propylaea, the Victory Sanctuary was open, entered from the Propylaea's southwest wing and from a narrow stair on the north

The first orchestra terrace was constructed on the site around the mid- to late-sixth century BC, where it hosted the City Dionysia. The theatre reached its fullest extent in the fourth century BC under the epistates of Lycurgus when it would have had a capacity of up to 17,000, and was in continuous use down to the Roman period. The theatre then fell into decay in the Byzantine era and was not identified, excavated, and restored to its current condition until the nineteenth century.

This dazzling modernist museum at the foot of the Acropolis’ southern slope showcases its surviving treasures still in Greek possession. While the collection covers the Archaic and Roman periods, the emphasis is on the Acropolis of the 5th century BCE, considered the apotheosis of Greece’s artistic achievement. Built in 2009, this museum was voted as the best mono-thematic museum for 2019.

The perfect tour to kick off Day 1 in Athens.
Published on Dec, 2024
Chris was absolutely the most knowledgeable, kindest, welcoming ambassador for us on our first day in Athens. The guided tour was the best way to go to see a large part of the cities highlights and historical landmarks with an expert, so we then knew the layout a bit for our additional days in Athens. We saw so much and Chris really spoke in detail about the history of this remarkable city. He made great suggestions of other things to see and do as well as we traveled about in his comfortable van. He has a passion for Greek history that really added to our exposure of the sights. What a great day with an exceptionally nice guide and we are most pleased.
Best experience ever.

Honestly it was the best experience ever since our guide driver gave us the perfect amount of information about everything and made us understand the history behind every stop we had, honestly when I come back I would ask for the same driver since me and my wife felt really comfortable and safe every second of the tour. He also waited exactly where he said he was going to be and all, we never got lost since the directions he gave us was spot on. Thanks a lot Mr. Andrea

Perfect day in Athens
Published on Oct, 2024
Andreas was waiting for us upon arrival at the airport. He took us to different sites in Athens, and he explained in detail the history of Athens. He is very knowledgeable and professional. Before the trip, I was nervous about getting to the cruise port in time. Andreas calmed this fear and delivered us to the port with time to spare. I would definitely recommend Andreas as your next host driver. Thank you, Andreas, for patiently waiting for us while we explored the Acropolis.
An amazing way to experience Athens with Chris as your guide

The history, the sights, the views, the traffic - lol.
What an amazing and comprehensive tour!
Our guide / driver (Chris) is bigger than life in stature, personality, patience, and knowledge!
Chris went so far over and above for us in attempting to ensure we got to see everything on the itinerary but also some sights and areas he has tucked away for his favorite guests! The Monastery is simple but austere and you may question the walk up the crazy stairs and pathway, but oh my… the views of the entire bowl of Athena with the Acropolis standing center stage was worth every step on the way up.
The Acropolis and the Parthenon were almost overwhelming in beauty and accomplishment. The Acropolis museum was extraordinary and lunch recommended by Chris was perfect.
Please treat yourself with this private tour for just you and a small group, perhaps you’ll be as fortunate as us and get Chris for your company and guide.
Note: you must plan ahead and purchase tickets to the Acropolis and Museum ahead of time… not included in this package but very much worth the effort and add on!
