Overview

In this 1-day tour, we will visit two of the most important sites in Fukuoka. The first one Dazaifu is a very popular place among travelers from domestic and abroad. Dazaifu Tenmangu is dedicated to the spirit of Sugawara Michizane, a scholar and politician of the Heian Period. Because of his great learning, Michizane has been associated with Tenjin, a Shinto deity of education, and is popular among students. The second town Yanagawa is a little city where a very unique water supply system for flood control, irrigation, various mechanisms by the wisdom of our ancestors is still alive. There you can see the feudal era of heritage is still alive, with the world's leading waterway in harmony with canal that extends to the center city 2km square to the extension 60km. That's why this city has another name "Venice in Japan". Leave it to the road of water of the moat, please enjoy a boat trip with the Funauta boatman song sung by a boatman, seeing a beautiful scenery of each season.

    Among the hundreds of Tenmangu Shrines throughout Japan, Dazaifu's (大宰府天満宮, Dazaifu Tenmangū) is the most important one alongside Kyoto's Kitano Tenmangu. Tenmangu Shrines are dedicated to the spirit of Sugawara Michizane, a scholar and politician of the Heian Period. Fun excursion to Dazaifu and Yanagawa

May was a wonderful guide navigating us around with dispatch. Dazaifu an amazing shrine to visit. I had never seen a golden calf and a unicorn together as shrine guardians. And boating on the canals of Yanagawa being serenaded by the boatman great fun. I would recommend this tour to anyone.

Our trip was excellent and highly recommended. We had a personal tour guide which was unexpected. Our tour guide “ Mr sensei” was very helpful, courteous and gave us very good explanations and recommendations when requested.The Yanagawa boating experience was so peaceful and fun. The recommended restaurant for eel was so delicious. Daizaifu was beautiful and unusual with the roof of the temple with plants growing. We had enough personal time for souvenirs shopping and trying out local delicatessens. Bus and train travel to and from were very smooth. Thank you “ Mr Sensei” for a wonderful experience.
