Itinerary

  • Montparnasse (Pass By)

The Quartier Montparnasse was a high place of intellectual and artistic life in Paris between the two world wars, frequented by the greatest writers and artists of the time. The great café-restaurants on Boulevard Montparnasse, such as the Rotonde, the Dôme, the Coupole and the Select, were famous at the time. In the 1960s, the district was transformed by the restructuring of the Gare Montparnasse area and the construction of the Montparnasse Tower. The neighborhood has come back to life thanks to this real estate operation. Also in the area are the Hôtel de Montmorency, the Collège Stanislas and numerous theaters on Rue de la Gaîté. Place Edgar Quinet is always lively and leads to the Cimetière du Montparnasse. Place Denfert-Rochereau, where the main entrance to the Catacombs of Paris is located, is located about a kilometer south of the district.

  • Petit-Montrouge (Pass By)

The Petit Montrouge district, also known as the Alésia district, is located in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. At the beginning of the 19th century, it became industrialized and attracted a working population living in precarious conditions. At the turn of the 19th and 20th century, renovation operations led to the construction of opulent buildings. Until the 1960s, the district remained popular, but since then it has experienced a rise in its standard of living and has become a district sought after for its quality of life, its shops, its green spaces and its atypical architecture.

  • Quartier des Peupliers (Pass By)

In the Middle Ages, the Peupliers district was a rural area with cultivated fields, vineyards and pastures bordering the Bièvre river. Water mills, tanners and dyers settled on the banks of the river. Over the centuries, the district has experienced rapid urbanization with the arrival of many craftsmen and industries. In 1860, the district was integrated into Paris and underwent an anarchic urbanization. The Bièvre river, which had become a polluted cesspool, was diverted from the Seine to be concreted and buried. At the beginning of the 20th century, new types of constructions emerged, giving the district its current appearance. The district remained popular until the 1960s, then experienced a rise in its standard of living and is today sought after for its quality of life, its shops, its green spaces and its atypical architecture.

  • Butte-aux-Cailles (Pass By)

La Butte-aux-Cailles is a district of Paris located in the 13th arrondissement, near the Place d'Italie. This district is appreciated for its tranquility and its village atmosphere, with its small cobbled streets, its buildings covered with ivy and its pavilions in bloom. You can contemplate ephemeral works of urban art created by graffiti artists and stencils. Place Paul Verlaine is home to a fountain that distributes pure spring water, drawn from more than 600 meters deep and used to supply the neighborhood swimming pool. This swimming pool, classified as a historical monument, is in the Art Nouveau style and is a victim of its own success on sunny days.

  • Croulebarbe (Pass By)

The Croulebarbe district takes its name from the Croulebarbe family and its founder, Jean Croulebarbe, who owned vineyards and mills on this land at the beginning of the 13th century. The richness of this district is due to both its industrial and rural heritage. Formerly a land of vineyards and mills, then an industrial city with the arrival of upholsterers, dyers and other brewers, the Croulebarbe district has a rich cultural and architectural heritage. There is the islet of the Reine Blanche built at the instigation of Queen Marguerite of Provence in 1290; the Manufacture des Gobelins created in 1601 which marked the history of tapestry worldwide; or even the Cité Fleurie, a set of artists' studios where Paul Gauguin, Amedeo Modigliani and Henri Laurens lived at the beginning of the 20th century.

  • Ile Saint-Louis (Pass By)

The Ile Saint-Louis is one of the two natural islands of the Seine in Paris, with the Ile de la Cité. It takes its name from King Louis IX, nicknamed Saint Louis. It is a historic and residential district which is home to many mansions with admirable facades. Formerly called the "Island of Palaces", it is distinguished by its architectural homogeneity and its charm. To admire these architectural jewels, just take a walk in rue Saint-Louis-en-l'Ile or on the Quai de Béthune. Connected to the rest of Paris by six bridges, Île Saint-Louis is a very peaceful place.

  • Quartier Latin (Pass By)

The Latin Quarter is a student district located in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, close to the Sorbonne faculty and the Luxembourg Gardens. It is a district renowned for its prestigious schools and institutions, as well as for its lively student life and its many bistros. The district is a historic center of learning, scholarship and art in Paris. The district is also home to emblematic monuments such as the Pantheon, the National Museum of the Middle Ages and the Arènes de Lutèce. As you walk through the district, you will also discover the Sorbonne, the Collège de France, the Lycée Henri IV and the shopping streets Rue Mouffetard and Rue Monge.

  • Mouffetard Market (Pass By)

The Mouffetard district is located in the 5th arrondissement of Paris. It gives you an overview of the capital's past thanks to its many historical sites and monuments such as the Saint-Médard church and the Arènes de Lutèce Gallo-Roman arenas dating from the 1st century.
