Overview

Enjoy a close, personal encounter with the West Indian Manatee as you snorkel with them under the guidance of a U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Captain. Our small group (no more than six guests) tours are conducted daily in the beautiful Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge. Get up close and personal with these amazing mammals and learn about the ecosystem and their habitat. Unlike many tours, these Captains will actually swim with you and your group to ensure that you have a memorable experience. While in the water, your captain/tour guide will take high-definition photos and videos of you and your group which you will be able to view and purchase at the end of your trip. Your price includes all snorkeling equipment (mask, snorkel, wetsuit) and complimentary coffee or hot cocoa.

Meeting points

Please arrive no earlier than your scheduled tour time. Our captains and guides are busy between trips with the previous tour and readying your boat and our shop for your trip. If you arrive early, you are likely to be waiting for our other guests to get changed and review their photos.

Itinerary

Upon arrival at the dive shop, guests will be fitted for wetsuits (included in price) and asked to watch a brief video from US Fish and Wildlife outlining their encounter with the manatees. The captain and guide will then take the group to the boat and embark all passengers and give a short safety brief. Once underway, the guide will further explain how to interact with the manatees once in the water and fit the guests with their masks and snorkels. While transiting to the swim areas, the captain and guide will present information about the area wildlife and what guests can expect to see during your tour. They will also answer questions and take pictures along the way. Once the vessel sights manatees, the captain will anchor the vessel and the group and guide will proceed into the water for your encounter. The guide will stay with the group the entire time, ensuring that the guests get the most out of their experience, all while taking photos and videos of your adventure!

Manatee Magnet

Jade and captain were wonderful! Not only did they provide the upmost customer service and professionalism, they went above and beyond to ensure magical interactions. I had been with manatees before, but this was by far the best experience. Their expertise and positive mindset undoubtedly translated into becoming a magnet to the most beautiful and friendly manatee in the water. Thank you, I’ll be back!

Amazing Experience with Gulf Coast Expeditions

Captain Ron and Jade took care of us throughout the whole tour. We got geared up in the provided wetsuits in the comfort of the changing room in their office. We watched an instructional video of do's and don'ts and then were on our way to find the manatees. It didn't take long to get to our destination where we dropped in the water and were immediately greeted by the amazing creatures. Jade provided great information about the animals and the surrounding area as we interacted with the docile creatures. Choosing the early morning tour is a bonus because you'll get there before the other tour operators and you'll get to spend some precious alone time with the manatee. When it was time to get out of the water, even though the air temperatures were quite chilly they were prepared by providing coffee, hot chocolate and hooded long jackets for the trip back to the dock. Take a set of dry clothes and a towel with you so you can change out of the wetsuit and be ready to go onto your next adventure!

The experience is magical, especially on a cold winter day. The manatees are gathering around the spring and really playful. The guide and the captain are really friendly and they are doing everything to make sure your trip is comfortable.
