Overview

The tour takes you around some of the more interesting sights of the beautiful city of Newcastle. On it you will hear about the history of the city from the Iron Age to present day, and also about some of the city's more interesting characters. The tour is approximately 3.5km (2.2 miles), does include some steps, road crossing, and some uneven pavement. Please come prepared according to the weather forecast for that day. In the event of bad weather, please contact me through the message option here on TripAdvisor to see if the tour is still going ahead. Weather cancellations will be very rare.

    Hear about the town wall and it's towers, the siege of Newcastle in 1644, and the Gallowgate leadworks.

  • St. Mary's Cathedral (Pass By)

    The first cathedral in Newcastle (but not the oldest). Hear the history of the cathedrals in the city, and how this one came to be built.

  • Newcastle Castle

    Hear about the history of the site from the Iron Age to the Roman fort, and the building, and rebuilding, of the castle.

Booked a three hour trip with Rob who took me and two others through some of the many places of interest the history and those associated people born who contributed to the city of Newcastle. Extremely knowledgeable and pointed out some even the locals would miss. Would recommend without any hesitation to have Rob do another as very courteous. I have no hesitation to recommend this to others visitors to the city.

Myself and my three teenagers took this tour of Newcastle and highly recommend it. Rob is so knowledgeable on English and Newcastle history and the tour is so interesting. Not to be missed, a highlight of our stay!

Rob was vert kind and intelligent. He asked about the background of each person and was able to ask questions related to each person’s background, to enrich his story or just out of sincere interest. I’m glad I did this tour on day 1 of my visit to Newcastle, because I was able to enjoy Newcastle better on day 2 thanks to Rob.
