Overview

This tour has a combination of walking and the use of a very convenient public transport system. Even though Fukuoka is a large Metropolitan City of nearly 2 million people it is rather compact within the City Center and an easy place to transverse either by walking or using the subway or both. This walking tour of Fukuoka City can accommodate up to 8 members. Pick ups and drop offs at the International Port Terminal / Hakata Station or a local hotel is all part of the service.

1. Sumiyoshi Shrine Let`s check out this beautifully presented Shrine whilst getting a Shinto Blessing. 20 minutes

2. Yanagibashi Rengo Market It's a step back into the past with a Retro shopping experience at one of the oldest Markets in Fukuoka. 15 minutes

3. Tenjin Underground Shopping Center A walk through the Tenjin Underground Shopping Center will leave you speechless and feeling like a shopping spree is the answer to life`s problems. 20 minutes

4. Ohorikoen Japanese Garden The Japanese Gardens here in Ohori Park are incredible at any time of the year and a natural delight. 30 minutes

5. Fukuoka Castle Remains The peaceful and relaxing Fukuoka Castle Remains and the nearby History Museum will provide a lot of information for you and your party. 30 minutes

6. Sannomaru Square How about having a cultural experience in Maizuru Park and getting fitted for a Kimono? 45 minutes

7. Nishijin Shopping District A quick view of a street arcade and nearby ruins of the remnants of the wall that was built in the 13th Century by the Samurai`s to protect Fukuoka from the advancing Mongolians. 20 minutes

8. Nishijingen Genkoborui Bulwark The Mongolian wall remnants in Central Fukuoka are a real find indeed! You wouldn't expect to be able to find this incredible site and a window to the long and dynamic historical past. Obviously, the wall is only a fraction of what it was at its peak in the 13th Century but never the less, such a strong impression can be obtained of what the exact situation was with the combative Mongolians and their quest to invade Japan. The remains are central located near Seinan University and only a 10 minute walk from the nearest subway station, so its a location that isn't too difficult to find let alone enjoy a stroll and feel the historical significance of the area. 10 minutes

9. Fukuoka Tower Get a birds eye view of Fukuoka and surrounding areas from the top of the Fukuoka Tower. The views are incredible and will give you a special feel of the city from 123 meters above the ground. 25 minutes

10. Momochi Seaside Park Walk along the Momochi Boardwalk and enjoy the pleasant sea breezes as you pass landmark buildings such as the Hilton Hotel, Fukuoka PayPal Dome and the MarkIs Shopping Mall. 15 minutes

11. Hakata Station A great last attraction to finish the day. Highlights here include the rooftop lookout and an observatory to see a multitude of trains coming and going from the terminal including the amazing Shinkansen. 30 minutes
