Overview

Ride an open-top aerial cable car to the peak of Mt Stanserhorn and take in the spectacular views of the Swiss Alps! On this full-day coach tour from Zurich, you’ll see the gorgeous countryside and visit the charming city of Lucerne, including its Old Town. In Stans, hop on an oldtimer funicular railway car and then take the Stanserhorn ‘CabriO’ – an open-air gondola – the rest of the way up to the Rondorama rotating restaurant and Marmot Park. From Stans, enjoy a train ride back to Lucerne!

The official departure point for all tours departing from Zurich is Sihlquai Bus Station, near Zurich’s main train station (Zürich HB). Zurich (Pass By)

After having made your way to the meeting point in central Zurich, depart with your knowledgeable guide aboard a comfortable coach through the scenic countryside of central Switzerland. Relax on the journey along the Albis – a chain of wooded hills – and pass the shores of Lake Lucerne.

Take in the views during a short photo stop en route at either Lake Lucerne or at the Lion Monument.

Enjoy a brief orientation drive, where your guide points out the main attractions of this charming town like the famous Chapel Bridge, the Town Hall, the picturesque Jesuit Church or the impressive Concert and Congress Hall (KKL). Enjoy some leisure to explore the Old Town individually before the journey continues.

Then, continue by coach to Stans, a town surrounded by orchards. You’ll delight in an unforgettable ride through flowering meadows to the valley station of the vintage funicular railway, recently restored but built in 1893. Your guide will drop you off here and provide you with all the necessary information and schedules so that you are well prepared to spend your afternoon at Mt. Stanserhorn independently.
CabriO Stanserhorn-Bahn

Take the CabriO – the world’s first open-top aerial cable car – to the summit of Mt Stanserhorn, rising 6,230 feet (1,900 meters) above sea level. During the 25-minute ride, relish the remarkable view from the roofless upper deck of the gondola as you ascend. Take in the panorama from the mountaintop as you look down at more than 10 lakes and 62 miles (100 km) of the Swiss Alps mountain range. Next, go on a short hike to Stanserhorn’s peak and visit the Marmot Park for a chance to watch the animals in their natural habitat. Opt for a typical Swiss meal (own expense) in the Rondorama, a revolving restaurant with fabulous views.

Lucerne & Stanserhorn/Cabrio

We had good tour guides (Gonzalo), who gave you a little history as we drove from Zurich to Lucerne and Stanserhorn. He was polite and gave us good directions for the unguided portions of our trip. Luzurn is a beautiful town full of history and beautiful architecture and great cuisine. We left around 9:30am and returned close to 7pm. The Cabrio ride up Stanserhorn is amazing!!!

Fun time for a diverse group of ages

It was a crisp fall day and wet but not freezing when we started up. By the time we got to the top it was snowing and we had a fun snowball fight. A warm cup of coffee and a great view before we headed back down, Our tour was just the Cambrio ride, not the hike, but it was a great three hours of enjoyment. The operators were also very personable which added to the day.

This was a great day trip! There was so much to do and see in Lucerne during our downtown. We got to see the covered bridge, walk around the beautiful old town, and took a walk along the original wall when all the church bells were ringing. We also enjoyed the mountain trip. In the fall the clouds hang lower, so although this is not the highest mountain, we were able to see really great views on the looped trail behind the mountain. It was a cool experience to ride on the older rail car and stand on the open top cable car. Really enjoyed our day mixing some of the city and the Mountain View’s

This is a great tour, its partly guided which i knew. Check in was easy, point of meeting was easy to find (near main station), the bus was comfortable, the tour guide was very knowledgeable, attentive and super friendly. She gave us all tickets and details as to how to make it to the top of the mountain and return to Zurich. Totally recommend it.
