IF IN PRAGUE--DON'T MISS

There were five individuals on strings and one singer (Ensemble Czech Collegium). The sound and acoustics in the synagogue were outstanding. The sound is like there was an entire string orchestra playing and the singer's voice reverberated throughout the room. The diverse selections of music expressed the talent of the musicians. The musicians complemented each other so well that it was a seemless performance. The only negative was that they didn't have a way to purchase their performance other than a DVD.

Definitely worthwhile when in Prague

Really a good experience in an awesome venue. I would do it again. There are also plenty of similar options, do look around.

Amazing venue and outstanding performers!

The venue is a synagogue with crazy level of detail and ornamentation and the best acoustics ever! The performers were on point - everything was able to be heard and I am not a big fan of opera or the trumpet but their additions on selected songs was outstanding. Memorable evening!

A delightful concert at the Spanish Synagogue in Prague

This concert by the Czech Collegium was wonderful. The concert was brief, only an hour and that was probably a good thing since the pews were not comfortable. But the music made up for it. The excerpts were eclectic, ranging from Mozart and Bach to Smetana, Bernstein and Gershwin. The trumpet soloist was exceptional and the soprano who sang Verdi, and Gershwin had a clear and lovely voice. The venue was also beautiful and especially meaningful on the date we attended. Prague was not taking any chances with any annoying demonstrations and there was a guard at the entrance carrying a machine gun! Also a police car with three large officers outside on the street beside the synagogue. I highly recommend this ensemble and the concerts they perform. All four of us loved the concert.
