Overview

Your accredited tour guide is a local professional art critic, writer and college instructor. She has created and led tours for over fifteen years in New York's galleries and museums and will take you to the most talked-about exhibitions of the moment. In our small group, you can ask questions and share observations while your guide fills in background info on the on the best shows in New York City!

Meeting points

Departure Point: Chelsea, NYC Address: Tours meet in a different location in Chelsea for each tour. Please look for a message prior to the tour with our meeting location. Exact location will be confirmed one week prior to the tour, but please get in touch if you need a more precise location sooner.

    On this 2-hour tour, you’ll visit approximately seven of the most important contemporary art gallery shows of the moment, seeing and discussing artwork in variety of media. Exhibitions change every five to six weeks, so there is always something new to see. Your itinerary will include a range of mega-galleries and smaller space showing artwork by nationally and internationally acclaimed artists.

  • Tours take place rain or shine and meet in a different gallery for each tour. A message with the meeting location will be sent prior to the tour.
  • Your tour guide is licensed by New York City's Department of Consumer Affairs as a tour guide and is a member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA USA).
  • Some galleries have stairs. Please let us know in advance if you need to avoid stairs so we can make sure the itinerary is accessible.
  • Travelers should be able to stand and walk for two hours. Seating is usually not available.

A variety of contemporary artists and a good choice of artists using g different styles. From graphite to steel installations to oil. This is a substantial tour of the Chelsea art galleries. Well organized.

Will do a guided tour again. Merrily was a warm and insightful guide. Had the excitement of a backstage tour. Our group had a blast!

Excellent experience. Merrily is knowledgeable, the galleries were familiar to her and the artists were well researched, a broad selection all of whom worked in different media. She is a kind and helpful host and kept the tour to the perfect time. There was a real variety of work to look at, a little bit of walking and talking - we all agreed the pace was perfect and I'm already looking forward to my next trip to NY and tour with her.

Fantastic tour! Merrily was so prepared with background on each individual artist and additional ipad photos of past work. I loved the personal views that allowed us to really understand the art we saw. Merrily is very approachable and had a great way of asking us what we were seeing! Would absolutely do this again the next time we are in New York.
