We recommend to plan at least 2 hours for your visit. Restaurant: do you want to have a drink or to lunch before or after your visit to Train World? In the unique setting of the old Schaerbeek station building, the restaurant-brewery FilouSophe will welcome you in a warm atmosphere. Throughout history, travel - and trains in particular - have been a source of inspiration for artists. With the exhibition Draw me a train!, we invite you to explore the railway world, as imagined by talented designers. This exhibition delves into the work of thirteen renowned artists - comic strip authors, architects, painters, poster artists, sculptors and designers - who have captured the beauty of trains and the railway universe through their art. An exhibition that invites you to draw during your visit, you’ll also have the opportunity to unleash your own creativity by drawing some of our most beautiful trains, as well as remarkable or unusual objects from SNCB’s historical collections. An amazing display of trains! It’s massive! The displays are well presented and covers the past and present of the railroads in Belgium and connecting countries. Two hours is really the minimum you’ll need to fully immerse yourself in the exhibits. If you like trains, this is a MUST! Even if you really don’t know about trains, this is the place to come!

Visiting Train World - Schaerbeek.

As a Belgian, the NMBS was my employer for more than 20 years, now as a retiree I wanted to visit the "Train World Museum" during our visit to Belgium. I also had a discount on the entrance price. The Museum is more than worth a visit, and you can park right next to the station (paid parking). Train World is a railway museum in Schaerbeek, and the official museum of the National Railway Company of Belgium (NMBS/SNCB). Situated in the preserved buildings and in a new shed. Although scheduled to open in 2014, its opening was delayed until September 2015, when it was solemnly opened by King Philippe. The museum is over 8,000 square metres (86,000 sq ft) and displays 22 locomotives. It also displays 1,200 other objects, including an original 19th century railway bridge. One of the most important objects in the museum is the "Pays du Waes" steam locomotive, dating to 1845, which is the oldest preserved locomotive in continental Europe. It is more than just a guide for young and old.

Superb Day visit for all from Brussels

Really superb exhibition! Excellent atmospheric lights, sound and all round ambience. For Uk visitors, when compared to Swindon or York, this is definitely up there for both adults and children. Make sure you get the App loaded on a smartphone to listen to the commentaries - Erfgoedapp - it really helps. The exhibits and ability to get up close to it all is to be commended and makes a wonderful and worthwhile trip from Brussels - get a train from Brussels central to the centre (approx 10 mins & €2.50 each one way). Probably plan to take a snack with you as there wasn’t a cafe onsite when we went in Nov 24, but found a decent frites shop in the local area.

Simply a lovely day out,nice staff nice museum, something for a ages and levels of intrest. Also very reasonable priced plus a nice restaurant attached to the museum.

Easy to get to. Lots to see. Steam engines very interesting. Lunch at the cafe was good. Stayed about 2.5 hours.
