As a Belgian, the NMBS was my employer for more than 20 years, now as a retiree I wanted to visit the "Train World Museum" during our visit to Belgium. I also had a discount on the entrance price. The Museum is more than worth a visit, and you can park right next to the station (paid parking).
Train World is a railway museum in Schaerbeek, and the official museum of the National Railway Company of Belgium (NMBS/SNCB). Situated in the preserved buildings and in a new shed. Although scheduled to open in 2014, its opening was delayed until September 2015, when it was solemnly opened by King Philippe.
The museum is over 8,000 square metres (86,000 sq ft) and displays 22 locomotives. It also displays 1,200 other objects, including an original 19th century railway bridge. One of the most important objects in the museum is the "Pays du Waes" steam locomotive, dating to 1845, which is the oldest preserved locomotive in continental Europe. It is more than just a guide for young and old.
