We booked a cruise almost 2 years in advance in order to explore Australia and the great barrier reef. About four months before our embarkation, we started planning all of our port stop excursions. We reached out and made a booking for this three hour walking tour of Brisbane as it would fit perfectly within our one day port schedule. Communication was very prompt and relied upon email and WhatsApp to connect us to the tour guide.
Schedules change quite frequently within four months, and the day before we were finalized with our tour guide, Brissy. We were able to indicate the location where our shuttle bus would drop us from the port, as the port is quite a distance away from City center. Brissy was at our meeting spot before us, so we were able to jump right into our tour.
We traversed almost 5 miles, and she went through the history of the city, industry, the current construction boom in preparation for the Olympics, as well as political insights of the day. It was awesome to learn that so many museums were free, and we stepped into a couple of them for a quick taste of what we may want to see upon return. we also walked across the bridges and the south Bank area, which is absolutely gorgeous. She also educated us a little on the free ferry system so we took our last ferry ride from the furthest part in town that returned us back to where our shuttle bus would pick us up and return us to port.
we would definitely recommend this method of learning about Brisbane on a cruise port stop if you have the fitness level required. It was an awesome day for us.
