Overview

See Australia's unique animals and birds in their natural environment on a rainforest wildlife-spotting tour in the Atherton Tablelands. Led by an expert nature guide, your small-group nocturnal tour visits a number of locations including lush tropical rainforest and a volcanic crater lake. See tree kangaroos, lizards and musky rat kangaroo by day, and search for platypus at dusk. Enjoy afternoon tea at Lake Barrine and dinner at a country restaurant, then go spotlighting for possum, bandicoots, owls, bats and tree kangaroos by starlight on this fascinating nocturnal wildlife tour.

  • Atherton Tablelands

    There is no better place close to Cairns to see some of the rarest animals in Australia in the wild. We spend the majority of our tour exploring the region searching for wildlife.

  • Curtain Fig National Park

    We take you to this amazing natural spectacle during the night walk section of our tour. The sites and sound of the rainforest at night is an experience you will not forget.

  • Yungaburra (Pass By)

    Our tour is centred around the picturesque village of Yungaburra and the surrounding countryside. It is also where we get dinner.

  • Lake Barrine

    During the tour we take a break for afternoon tea and there is no better setting than Lake Barrine to enjoy it. Afterwards we take a slow walk through the surrounding forest searching for Forest Dragons and Musky Rat Kangaroos!

I appreciated the tour guide's depth of knowledge and attention to detail. The platypus sightings are quite regular and are the highlight of the trip.

Amazing tour. We saw wildlife most Aussies don’t see in their lifetime, amongst them three platypus and a tree kangaroo. Paul took us to all the right spots, and had so much information about all the animals and nature. Would highly recommend if you want an authentic experience.

A great wildlife, rainforest tour!

Take this trip! This is a well planned, amazing trip. Paul is wonderful host with wealth of knowledge. We saw so many native Australian animals including the platypus, tree kangaroo, two types of possums, rainbow gecko, dragon lizard and many more. We even experienced a fruit bat rescue If you want a chance to see a pademelon, take this tour!

A delightful laid back trip to see some of Australia’s wildlife that I suspect most visitors don’t get to see. Paul was an excellent host/guide and a mine of local wildlife information. We would highly recommend.

This was one of the best wildlife tours i’ve ever taken! It was wonderful to see so much of Australia’s legendary creatures in their native habitats like Platypus, Wallaby, Flying Foxes, and too many types of birds to mention. The rainforest was lush and beautiful and the majesty of the famous Curtain fig tree was simply breathtaking!!! Paul is a top-notch guide who knows his local wildlife as well as any biologist. He’s a got a great sense of humor and he always made sure we were in the perfect spots to get a clear view of all the critters. Dinner at the beautiful old Yungaburra was delicious and the old world atmosphere of the place is really something worth experiencing in itself !!! If you’re ever in Queensland, don’t miss this tour!!!
