Positano is a picturesque and charming town located near Sorrento, Capri, Amalfi, and Ravello on the Amalfi Coast in Italy. Famous for its magnificent cliffside views, Positano has been featured in major motion pictures like “Only You” (1994) and “Under the Tuscan Sun” (2003). However, the beauty does not just lie in the spectacular scenery along the Mediterranean Sea, but also within the people you meet in the town. There is a sense of warmth in the narrow streets that are adorned with lemons, bougainvillea flowers and local artistry. The town is small enough to walk everywhere, and there is little need for transportation. Additionally, the town is very casual – from the small cafes to the cute shops. You will find one-of-a-kind treasures such as beautiful handmade ceramics, lemon fragrances and chic lace clothing. If you are creating an Italy itinerary, this is a must see city.

lla Rufolo is the jewel in the crown of the immense historical and architectonic heritage of Ravello. This monumental complex bears the name of the family which built it. In its heyday, in the 13th century, it numbered “more rooms than there are days in the year”. This extraordinary heritage has been partially eroded by the effects of time and negligence, but much has been retrieved, with new features being added in more recent times, starting from the invaluable efforts of the Scottish entrepreneur Francis Nevile Reid, owner of the Villa at the turn of the twentieth century. Over ten centuries the original core, a perfect synthesis of Arabic, Sicilian and Norman architecture, has accumulated new features, from the rather cumbersome 18th century cloister to the Romantic nineteenth century gardens, up until our own times, being currently used by the Fondazione Ravello, the Ravello Festival a

e Villa’s gardens are breathtakingly beautiful and contain a wealth “of the most beautiful imaginable flowers”. They were largely redesigned at the start of the 20th century, with the valuable input of the English gardener Vita Sackville-West. They are considered among the most important examples of the English landscape and botany culture in the South of Europe. As a result of the strong influence of classical literature and the reinterpretation of the Roman villa, numerous impressive decorative elements from all over the world were placed in the gardens, such as fountains, nymphaea, statues, small temples and pavilions. Some of them often hosted gatherings of the prestigious Bloomsbury Group, which chose Villa Cimbrone as a meeting place and source of inspiration.

Clear filterDream drive to a dream locations!

We were so fortunate to take this tour on the most lovely day in December. Even though it was winter and a lot of the shops were closed, the beautiful drive was still well worth it. The nice thing about traveling in winter is that we didn't have to worry about traffic, crazy crowds and unbearable heat. It was so lovely to drive through the towns and villages and see how people in these communities actually live. Not to worry, we still got plenty of shopping done. Our driver - Diego was extremely professional, knowledgable and thoughtful. He made us feel like family as he showed us around. We were lucky to get a sunny and cool day to enjoy the drive and the stops. We went in and out of Naples with door to door service in a clean, modern and spacious car. 10/10 for sure.
Excellent Amalfi Experience
Published on Dec, 2024
Diego was our driver and provided an exceptional experience. We toured Ravello, Amalfi, and Positano in a single day. He was familiar with history and various landmarks throughout the drive. Most importantly, he had insight about the areas that allowed us to focus our experience on sights that were most important during our tour. An additional benefit of having Diego as our driver was he parked close to historical centers. Having a driver willing to pay parking costs near each historical center helped maximize our time spent discovering, rather than walking miles from remote parking areas. Having a private driver like Diego to experience the Amalfi coast has my highest recommendation!
Wonderful Amalfi Coast Tour with Fantastic Guide Mario F.
Published on Dec, 2024
We selected Mario as a guide and driver for the Amalfi Coast this November based on his reviews after our previously chosen guide became ill at the last minute. Fate dealt us a great hand! Mario was everything you could hope for in a guide – friendly, positive, attentive, super knowledgeable, full of ideas, and always prompt and on time. During our visit he revealed that he was a third-generation guide in his family – it’s clear he learned the profession well and has a true passion for it. Spending a day with him was to be immersed in Italian history! While the weather the day of our coast tour wasn’t ideal, he made the best of it, stopping for several great views and photo shoots when the clouds parted, and the sun came out. We visited some beautiful villages, he gave us plenty of time to wander and explore, and Mario went out of his way to make our visit to the Amalfi Coast a memorable and enriching experience. Beyond that, because we were visiting Herculean and Pompeii with another guide the next day, he gave us some great background and superb insight on the archeological aspects of the sites, pointers on what special places to visit, especially in Pompeii, and then offered to serve as our transportation (which we would have had to book separately anyway) for the day. Then, to top it all off, Mario dropped us at the doorstep of our Airbnb, picked us up right on time the next morning, gave us some great Napoli pizza recommendations, and all-in-all, made our trip to Naples relaxed, completely worry-free, special, and very, very memorable. If you are looking for a private guide who will literally treat you like family – in the best way possible – we highly recommend Mario! Mark & Bobbi Haney, New Hampshire, USA

Wonderful day trip to Amalfi and Positano
Published on Nov, 2024
I can't say enough about our tour guide, Eugene. His love for the region was infectious. Around every turn (and there are thousands of them on the Amalfi coast!), he shared another story or pointed out a stunning landmark. He made the day not only interesting but fun! We stopped for many photos, and he took us to a mountainside restaurant draped in flowers overlooking the Mediterranean. Bellissimo!
