Our guide Maya was wonderful - she is a native New Yorker and weaved her personal story about the atrocities of 911 into her mix of world trade centre knowledge in a skillful, respectful and intertwined way. This was by no means a "me, me, me" story. Her knowledge of the area, the development so far and projections was superb and she was interesting and open to any questions. My son and I learned so much about the history of the world trade centre prior to 911 and about the two rememberence pools - that we would never have known without the tour.
The museum is sobering. Quietly respectful, allowing each indivudial to find the story of all the planes hijacked that fateful day and sharing information about the brave individuals who lost their lives during, and resulting from the attack.
The speed of the lift in the One World Observatory is amazing and the views are wonderful - though the snow fell within 5 mins of us arriving at the top - blanketing the skyline!
To sum up - do the tour: The information you glean about the area pre and post 911 is worth it alone but to also see the regeneration, hear about the One World Observatory and future plans gives a greater insight into the resilience of this remarkable place.
