Overview

In this tour we will visit the wonderful town of Alberobello (also known as the city of trulli) and Matera Alberobello was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996 because it is an exceptional example of building construction with prehistoric techniques that have survived intact and are still functioning in the modern world. A "Trullo" is in fact a small limestone house, made with dry stone walls, roughly worked limestone blocks collected from nearby fields and topped with a conical roof. Souvenir shops, B&Bs, bars and restaurants will brighten up your stay in Alberobello. Matera is the city of the Sassi, the original urban nucleus, developed from natural caves dug into the rock and subsequently modeled into increasingly complex structures within two large natural amphitheatres that are the Sasso Caveoso and the Sasso Barisano.

A Trulli Magical Experience

The whole tour was very wel organised. Our driver was amazing and safe. The bus left on time. There was plenty of time in Alberobello to explore the village and visit local shops. We travelled in January so there was barely any crowd. You get roughly 3 hrs. I would advise that you grab a quick bite to eat as there is no specific lunch stop. I would not recommed a guide here. However moving onto Matera, having a guide is relevant as there is a lot to see and too little time. The guide will take you to all the relevant view points. One could easily get lost on Matera hence a guide is strongly recommended. Both are absolutely gorgeous places and the tour does try to do justice to both of them.

The tour was great. The website and the address/directions suck! I barely made it to the bus, because the address took me about 1.5 blocks from the actual meeting point

Relaxing and well-organized

We liked that the experience offered different options - bus ride only, with a tour guide to 1 destination and with guides to 2 destinations. It gave us the option to choose what is best for our family. We found everything well-organized. They provided brochures with the schedule and points of interest and the tv in the bus also gave introductions to the destinations in multiple languages. There was also a QR code to a link with audio guides which was useful since we opted to get the option without the tour guides. The bus driver was also pleasant. We highly recommend Apuglia Smart Tours.

100% recommend, cities of Alberobello and Matera are amazing! Comfortable bus, nice stuff, everything else as great. We took guided tour in Matera, and decided to walk around on our own in Alberobello. Guided tour was a bit of mess, but it didn't affect our overall experience. The guide talked in 3 languages, so it was taking some time to listen to him, we were trying to use these delayes to take pictures because the guide didn't offer to stop a bit for taking pictures.
