This is a must see while you are in Zagreb. Still very picturesque from the outside. This cathedral's twin spires – seemingly permanently under repair – soar over the city. Formerly known as St Stephen’s, the cathedral has an original Gothic structure that's been transformed many times over. However, the sacristy still contains a cycle of frescoes dating from the 13th century. An earthquake in 1880 badly damaged the building, and reconstruction in a Neo-Gothic style began around the turn of the 20th century.

  • Tkalciceva Street

Tkalčićeva Street is Zagreb main hub for cafes, restaurants and casual nightlife. Also known as Tkalča (Tkalcha), it features dozens of places where you will find something to your liking. Tkalčićeva is filled with life. Numerous boutiques, traditional shops, restaurants, cafes and outdoor events will fill your day. Once it was a stream that divided two oldest Zagreb settlements, Gradec and Kaptol. Because of contamination by all the shops, the stream was diverted. In the period 1899 to 1941, almost every house in Tkalčićeva street was a brothel. Because it is in the centre, all windows had to have opaque glass and red lanterns. For this reason, Zagreb was the first city in Europe with the proper red light district. Today Tkalciceva Street continues its century-old tradition of Zagreb craftsmen and traders and is one of the most attractive streets in the city.

Together with St. Mark’s church, it stands as a living testimony to past times and the free royal Gric city, a predecessor to Zagreb. Within the gate, you will find a shrine and stone slabs praising the Mother of God. The shrine of our lady of the Stone Gate houses the painting of the Mother of God. Which miraculously survived the 17th-century fire and is protected by an artistically forged iron fence.
