The district holds memories of an era that pre-dates the federation of the emirates — before the union of the Emirati tribes in 1971 and a time when the pearl trade flourished in the region. A former trading hub for pearl and textile merchants in the 1800s, the area retains some of its originality— with narrow passages winding between low buildings.

Fantastic walking tour with river boat taxi ride in old town! My guide was knowledgeable and personable! He took me through old Dubai sharing history along the way before we ended in the markets. Highly recommend doing this tour on your travels to Dubai!

This was the first day at Dubai stay during Ramadan and joined this tour thru Viator. It was the only Old Dubai tour starting at mid-day and had pick up service from the hotel. That’s the reason to choose. Pick up service was smooth and luckily the customer was only us. The guide, Ikrum was so nice to keep a good pace with us. He was knowledgeable and could answer all questions we had. We visited the area urbanized in the 70’s, the heritage district, an old house, boat experience with other passengers and souk district in three hours. We bought spices at the store and could enjoy the whole experience. We would like to say thank you again to Ikrum, who brought us great hospitality and nice impressions of Dubai!

Must do in Dubai our guide (sorry can’t remember his name) was amazing. Gave us a history of the UAE and showed us the old town , souks , and had tastings of tea and coffee . Included a ride in an abra from the old town to the souk . My teen son also enjoyed it . Great to see another side of Dubai.
