Overview

Glacier Country Helicopters is a local, family owned and operated company based in Franz Josef, on the West Coast of New Zealand. Husband and wife team Gus and Poppy started the company in January 2014 and you'll generally find one of them out flying most days. On our Ultimate Discovery flight you'll see the three "big" glaciers. You'll fly over the Franz Josef, Fox & Tasman Glaciers and fly into the Southern Alps to see Mount Cook and enjoy the included 10-15 minute snow landing for photos. Total experience time approx. 45 minutes. Please allow an extra 45minutes on top of your flight time to allow for checking in, transport to helicopter, loading, unloading and to return to our office.

Meeting points

Please check in at our office 30 minutes prior to your flight time. We recommend bringing sunglasses, a light jacket, camera, and shoes you don’t mind getting wet.

  • Our helicopter seats are 40cm wide. If you would like extra space or are wider than this we highly recommend booking a comfort seat which guarantees an empty seat next to you.

Bucket list experience

Trip of a lifetime. Our pilot was so knowledgeable about where we were travelling over and skillful flying over the rugged peaks. The sky so blue, the snow so white a picture perfect trip crowned with a landing on the snow with time for photos as a momento. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would recommend the staff for their friendly professional service.

Beautiful day up in the glacier. Weather was ok - had to do a shorter flight because of weather. Poppy was a great pilot.

Extremely well organised with good pilot. Cloud prevented him flying where he was supposed to but he found other routes and still made the ride beautiful

Highlight of our trip

This was a highlight of our trip. The views were amazing. Clouds delayed us a bit, but the staff kept us advised on flight status. Don’t wander too far away when waiting. We were standing just outside the door and didn’t hear our name called when it was time for our safety briefing. They were able to find us, thanks to help from some other customers. We flew during early Feb and it wasn’t very cold up at our snow landing.

Unforgettable Memories

An unforgettable time, all of the staff were very helpful to rebook early next morning because of bad weather. Check-in was quick. The flight was awesome, and I was able to sit up front, which allowed excellent photography. Landed on the Glacier and had more than enough time to take photos and videos. I researched all of the other companies, and Glacier Country was the best and local company.
