We came here on the recommendation of Maison Brotte by my daughter who said it was superb. We had a great time and certainly not to be missed. Me and my daughter enjoyed a day at Châteauneuf-du-Pape enjoying the sites, castle, surrounding landscape and a delicious lunch also reviewed at la part des anges.
Maison Brotte is at the bottom of the hill is near to buses and a car park. We were first welcomed by the manager who gave us a brief description of what would happen. This can be in your language of choice. Then on to your tour. It was very quiet (no large groups thankfully) and tour at your own pace (audio) maybe 20/30 mins. We learnt a lot about Chateau neuf du pape wine, the terrain, the family, wine making and the Rhone valley even after touring and living in the area there were still things we didn’t know.
After this, back down to the shop area where we met a really nice guy, Jean Olivier who is like the sommelier of the tour, intelligent, witty and will communicate in your language of choice, we chose French as it was good to use it.
We had 5 wines to try of different character and age. He gave a brief description and then we tried them, and we spoke about the flavours, types of food pairings etc. It was adapted to us personally, he was informative and entertaining at the same time and it was fun to pass some time with him and his boss discussing wines. They work well together and that makes for a nice experience at Maison Britten.
You can buy any of the wines you try in the shop, we wished we weren’t flying and had a car as there was such a wonderful choice. Good for anyone passing longer holidays in the area.
We purchased some small bits from the shop like the Calissons which is a traditional sweet, a must for anyone with a sweet tooth or love of almond and makes a great gift from Provence.
It was wonderful to visit this area again and particularly to come to Maison Brotte, we’ll recommend to friends and come back again. Merci encore a Jean Olivier et son chef.
