Overview

Join my detailed Jewish Tour and learn about the moving history of the Berlin Jewish community. I am one of the longest working and most experienced jewish Berlin guides. Already in 1987 I came to live in here as an Alumni of the Film and Television School In the Tel Aviv University. 20 years ago I started guiding and kept the personal touch while becoming highly professional about the Jewish History. I know every street and building in the jewish quarter and I have detailed historical and cultural knowledge for all of them and on top of that also many intricate stories about individuals that lived in Berlin. Itinerary: Holocaust Memorial, Wilhelmstreet and the place where the bunker of Hitler was, Memorial to the Burning of the Books, the jewish quarter with the "New Synagoge", Deportation Memorial in the Grossen Hamburgerstrasse, the oldest Jewish Cemetery with Mendelssohn Memorial, Jewish High School, Rosenstarsse Memorial

  • Stiftung Neue Synagoge Berlin - Centrum Judaicum

    With 3200 seats this was the largest and most beautiful synagogue in Germany. The exhibition in the remains of the synagogue tells the story of the Jewish community and its tragic end.

  • The Holocaust Memorial - Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe

    Commemorate the murdered Jews Europe in the huge field of steles in the middle of the city of Berlin.

  • Book Burning Memorial at Bebelplatz

    A memorial on the Bebelplatz, the authentic place of the book burning on May 10, 1933.

  • Alter Judischer Friedhof (Old Jewish Cemetery)

    Here were the members of the Jewish community buried from 1672, among them, Moses Mendelssohn, the philosopher and Enlightenment, until the destruction by the Gestapo in 1943.

Jewish Life in Berlin

Sharon guided us through Berlin Jewish life from the 1600's into early 20th century. She gave us insights into daily life which paralleled Jewish life in NYC. She was personable and patient, answering all questions deftly..WAt the conclusion, we coul easily understand the gradual transitions which had occurred.

Highlight of our visit to Berlin

The day we spent with Nirit was without question the highlight of our visit to Berlin. Our tour was a mix of the Jewish tour as well as Berlin both during and after the Berlin wall came down. Nirit's expertise on the history of Berlin was extraordinary. Nirit planned the day to make it more meaningful to us based on our personal connection to the historical events related to the holocaust. It was a pleasure to spend time with her. We are still in awe of her extensive knowledge of the history of Berlin. We highly recommend Nirit to guide you on your visit of Berlin. It will be clear to you why we found the day with her to be the highlight of our visit.

Nirit works for over 20 years as tour guide in Berlin and is probably the most experienced guide in the region. She guides her tours in German English and Hebrew with the deepest knowledge of both general and Jewish history of the city. Nirit's knowledge is overwhelming and she shares it in a very assertive but pleasant way.

Excellent Jewish and Secular private tours

My wife and I spent 6 nights in Berlin last October. We wanted to do both a “secular” private tour of Berlin and environs (including Potsdam), as well as a Jewish oriented private tour. Another Berlin guide who we had used in the past but was unavailable on our dates highly recommended Nirit Ben-Joseph. We could not have been more pleased with Nirit. She is very personable and knowledgeable, giving us her historian’s perspective. She also used her laptop computer to give us a history lesson on Germany, with maps, from its formation to present day. Nirit drove us around in her own car. We highly recommend Nirit.
