We booked our tour in Killarney at the Deros Tour office and it turned out to be one of the best experiences of our trip. A short van ride takes you from Killarney to Kate Kearney’s Cottage. You can then hike the 7 miles through the Gap to Lord Brandon's Cottage for lunch, or you can hire a pony and carriage for €35 per person to make the crossing. This fee is paid directly to the driver and is not included in the tour price. We opted for the pony and carriage, which allowed us to fully enjoy the stunning scenery without the physical strain of the hike. After traveling through the breathtaking landscape of the Gap of Dunloe and down into The Black Valley, we boarded a motorboat that carried us along the winding Gearhameen River and across the Upper, Middle, and Lower Lakes of Killarney, ending at Ross Castle. The scenery was absolutely magical and stunning, and while we did get a little wet on the boat ride, the views more than made up for it. I recommend bringing a light rain jacket to stay comfortable in the cool mountain air and breezy lake crossings. It was a truly unforgettable adventure from start to finish.
