Overview

A glacier hike is a great way to experience Icelandic nature. On this full day, small group, guided tour, you will walk on the Sólheimajökull glacier tongue, which extends outward from Mýrdalsjökull. From here you will take an easy 3-3.5 hour walk on crampons up on the ice field, where you will learn more about the glacial wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges, deep crevasses, and why the glaciers are melting and disappearing.

Itinerary

Within a little less than two hours drive from Reykjavík is Eyjafjallajökull glacier, and just a little further the Sólheimajökull glacier tongue extends down from Mýrdalsjökull, Iceland´s fourth largest glacier. A glacier hike is a great way to experience Icelandic nature. We take an easy glacier walk on crampons up on to the ice field where a wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges and deep crevasses awaits discovery. During the hike you learn more about these disappearing giants. We will provide and teach you how to use basic glacier equipment for this tour. On the way back we make two stops, at the striking waterfalls Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss. Once we make our way back to Reykjavík we will stop at the majestic Skógafoss waterfall and the picturesque Seljalandsfoss waterfall. If weather permits it is possible to walk behind Seljalandsfoss.

Lots of fun

Highly recommended. Reasonable fitness level required. Leave 10AM and get back around 5PM. Beautiful to do in winter.

Best Icelandic Tour

By far the best tour I’ve experienced in Iceland so far!!! Johaness and Anna are very accommodating and always make sure that no one is left behind. Johaness knows his stuff and is a very good guide, and his history of Iceland is very detailed and easy to follow. Will definitely book more tours with them while here on vacation

Beautiful views and unique experiences

The tour was a must for a visit to Iceland. Getting to see multiple waterfalls, including walking behind one is an incredibly unique experience. On top of that, Leifur was a wealth of knowledge, with stories to tell as well.

South Coast Wonders

The South Coast Wonders tour (Ours did NOT include the Glacier hike - but no toter choice to choose) as another nice tour. We had a driver, who was also the tour guide, Leifur. HE was a very nice guy. Answered questions and told us different stories about the area. The tour was a long one but intersting scenery along the way. We did see some beautiful waterfalls and even walked behind a big one. The black beach with the lava stacks was interesting. The glacier site makes you wonder how the climate change is effecting nature. Again, if you only have a few days in town, this is another tour to take.

Dylan was a great tour guide and the glacier was beautiful. Getting to walk inside a glacier is a very cool and unique experience. Dylan was also very nice and informative !
