Itinerary

  • Snaefellsjokull National Park & Glacier (Pass By)

    Having picked up all our passengers, we will drive out of Reykjavik in a northwesterly direction and head towards the magnificent Snæfellsjökull glacier, which sits atop an active stratovolcano of the same name; The summit is covered by brilliant perpetual snow that is visible from Reykjavík Bay, on days when good weather accompanies the island. This place, with all its splendor, served as the setting for Jules Verne's science fiction novel, "Journey to the Center of the Earth." The volcano is believed to harbor mystical powers and is considered by many to be one of the seven major energy centers on earth, so don't be surprised if you experience an unexplainable flow of spiritual energy while you're nearby. On the way there, countless lunar landscapes, waterfalls, lakes and rivers, rocky coasts and small fishing villages await us that capture the true essence and beauty of this spectacular island.

  • Ytri Tunga Beach

    We will first visit Ytri Tunga, a beautiful beach that is home to a seal colony for much of the year (especially in the summer months).

  • Budakirkja

    Our next discovery will be the curious black church of Buðir. This ancient village is located within the Búðahraun lava field and has a natural harbor that made this place the most important commercial center on the peninsula, during the Danish commercial monopoly in the 17th and 18th centuries. This church is one of the few black churches in the country, painted with tar to protect the wood from Iceland's harsh weather conditions. It has been declared a national monument.

  • Arnarstapi-Hellnar Hike

    The coast of Arnarstapi and Hellnar is dotted with rock formations and spectacular cliffs. We will take a walk to observe the basalt columns, arches, grottoes and canyons; We will also have the opportunity to see a large number of seabirds, especially Arctic terns. Our walk will end at the statue of the gloomy Bardur, half troll and half man, who according to the sagas chose this place to found his home.

  • Djupalonssandur Beach

    We will also stop at the black sand beach of DjĂşpalĂłnssandur, another of the peculiar places that we will visit on this day. The remains of a shipwreck that took place in 1948 and the four smooth stones at the entrance to the beach, of different sizes, are striking. They were used to measure the strength of sailors working on these coasts and their wages were determined accordingly.

  • Kirkjufell Mountain

    Our next stop will be Kirkjufell, possibly the most picturesque and most photographed mountain in the country. Surrounded by streams and small waterfalls, it was chosen to represent Arrowhead in Game of Thrones. Not far from there, we will pass two fishing villages called GrunĂ°arfjorĂ°ur and Ă“lafsvĂ­k, known for receiving countless visits from orcas and seals; Don't forget to look at the sea, because this stretch is the best in the country to spot these animals from the shore.

  • Selvallafoss

    To finish, we will let ourselves be surprised by the beautiful Selvallafoss (Sheep Waterfall, known because it is often chosen as a place of shelter for these animals). From there we will enjoy wonderful views of the Selvallavatn lake and the immense lava field on the other side of it. Local legends and folk stories abound and are an essential element of this multifaceted tour. Remaining time equals travel time

Incredible tour!

One of our favorite experience of our trip by far was the Snæfellsnes Peninsula tour with our guide Halldór! Everything was so stunning, and we felt like we got to explore so much in just one day, from seeing lava fields and glaciers, to exploring beautiful coastal areas and waterfalls. Our guide was so kind, knowledgeable, and allowed us to see so much without feeling rushed at all. The lunch was also delicious and in a breathtaking location! Even with strong winds at one point we felt very safe and in good hands. Highly, highly recommend!

Snaefellsnes was a beautiful trip

This was our first tour of the week and it was a FANTASTIC way to start out vacation. We had a small group of 10 and our guide was Monica. The weather was beautiful and Monica made the trip fun with comedy, music and knowledge. I loved the small feel of our group and the scenery was just amazing. Mountains, ocean, volcanoes, fields, waterfalls. It had it all!!!!

Excellent guide and driver, Ă“scar provided US with lots of information about Snaefellsnes peninsula. Despite the fact that we travelled in a tiny van not suitable for average adults, we made a lot of stops in which we could admire the magnificient landscapes and sites of Snaefellsnes. The halt at the horse farm with the meal included was good, what a pity that we only could see the horses a bit far away
