This half-day food tour of Hong Kong makes five stops where you sample authentic Cantonese cuisine. Taste dim sum, wonton noodle soup, traditionally roasted meat, milk tea, and an egg tart, all eaten at local restaurants. Learn from your guide about the city's mix of British and Chinese heritage, from Guangzhou influences to Western favorites. Itinerary

Meet your guide in the morning in the Sheung Wan district of Hong Kong Island and follow on foot to a nearby restaurant. Arrive hungry, as you start the day with a traditional yum cha (dim sum) breakfast in a decades-old teahouse with lively atmosphere. Find yourself transported back to a bygone era as you sample authentic dumplings still served via trolley. Head to a family-run restaurant for your next stop to savor wonton noodle soup, established in the 1960s and recommended by the Michelin Guide. Bite into this local specialty, a dish that only a true master can perfect. Have time for a cup of milk tea, perhaps the most pervasive legacy of Hong Kong's former British rule. Next, travel aboard the Ding Ding (the Hong Kong tramway; own expense) to another family-run restaurant, which dates back to the pre-20th century Qing Dynasty and is renowned for its char siu (roast BBQ pork). You're served the best BBQ pork in Hong Kong, cooked in the traditional style and served with rice and house-made sauces. Finish at a well-established bakery, a personal favorite of a former Hong Kong governor. Sink your teeth into an egg tart, or dan tat in Cantonese, another Chinese version of an English pastry — the custard tart.  In between visits to these eateries in Sheung Wan, Central, and Wan Chai, stop by a dried seafood shop for a look at ingredients traditionally used in soups, a Chinese medicine shop originating from 1940s, and Hong Kong’s oldest wet market. At the end of your food tour, your guide will explain how to get back to your hotel or give recommendations and directions to another point of interest.

Authentic taste of Cantonese cuisine in Hong Kong!

We had an amazing time with our guide Alex. Being Hong Kong born and bred, he had a fantastic depth of knowledge about the history of the areas we visited, and also about Cantonese cuisine, which made for a very informative 4 hours. The restaurants and tea houses we visited, were both historical and unique in what they served…yum cha, bbq meats, wonton noodle soup etc. It is a definitely authentic taste of Hong Kong Cantonese cuisine, and the best way to spend half a day in Hong Kong. Highly recommend!

Absolutely fantastic tour made even better by our guide, Sinclair. A truly great guy who went out of his way to show us to the best restaurants, made sure the food was excellent and shared so much knowledge with us. Even though we were late (we did phone him to let him know) he didn’t rush us or cut short our tour. As I said… a fantastic tour with a superb guide!

Best Food Tour - a must when in HK

By far one of my favorite food tours . Alex was knowledgeable, welcoming, and overall cared about his group. Alex had reached out the night before providing information and photos of our meet up point which I found to be extremely helpful especially for first timers. We started off the tour with a lot of great information into Hong Kong, Cantonese Cuisine, and British Influences. Also providing insightful historial details of the dried fish markets and Chinese medicine . He was very informative and I learned a lot from this tour . All of our stops were delicious from dim sum to bbq pork . Very authentic and Michelin guide approved . It was also exciting to see the markets and even ride a tram found only on HK island also the longest escalator. Thank you Alex for the great tour . Would recommend this tour as a must when visiting Hong Kong .

Our tour guide Alex was excellent, he was very knowledgeable teaching us about the local customs and origins of the different food we tried. He was also able to cater to our different dietary needs. We especially enjoyed the dim sum experience!
