We booked the aurora hunting + snowshoeing activity with Nordic Odyssey, and had a wonderful experience. They outfitted us with overalls and boots, and when they heard that we didn't have proper gloves, they tried their best to find suitable ones even though they weren't required to provide them. Aurora, our aptly named guide, was patient even as we fumbled with the snowshoes. She also pointed out the different foliage in the forest at night, as well as tracks made in the snow by various animals -- all very interesting to city folks like us! She was knowledgeable about all things related to the northern lights, sharing with us how northern lights are formed and in what conditions we can see them. When she saw that we were freezing while waiting around to see the lights from the swamp, she brought us for another quick walk, timing our return to the swamp perfectly with the northern lights appearing in the sky. Our activity ended an hour behind time because Aurora really wanted us to see the northern lights -- we could really see her passion for the northern lights. After the activity, Nordic Odyssey even shared photos of the northern lights from that night. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! On top of the impeccable service, the warmth that the Nordic Odyssey folks showed us really made us feel welcome, and made the night memorable. If we are ever visiting Rovaniemi again, we will definitely engage Nordic Odyssey for other activities.

After a punctual pick-up, we received our equipment on site to start the snowshoe hike. On the way, our guide explained the details of the tour and said that the evening wasn't bad for seeing the lights. As we covered the first few metres of the hike, it turned out that our guide was quite wrong, as the evening was perfect for seeing the lights. We were therefore rewarded with a beautiful spectacle of the Northern Lights, which made the whole tour a wonderful experience. To our surprise, our guide also had a camera and tripod with her, which she used frequently during the tour. The pictures were provided to us at no extra charge and are definitely better than the pictures we took ourselves.

I had never tried snow shoeing before, and it was a bit hard work going up the hills, but it was incredible to be in the middle of nature. We saw a bird of prey, and fox and bunny paw prints. It started to snow as we hiked, which stopped any chance of us seeing northern lights, but made the experience more magical.

It was a very challenging night in the middle of the icy mountains around Rovaniemi. A different experience and not to be missed!

We got to see the Aurora-borealis in December! It was one of the unexpected days: very cold (-20 Celsius) and very clear skies and voila: Aurora-Borealis!!!! Our guide Herve' was great and very knowledgeable. And way more prepared than the rest of us: he shared his tripod with the group and helped change our mobile settings to better capture the spectacle. The snow shoeing was hard work and Herve' was a really fast walker but he was also very patient and would promptly assist when Snowshoes got stuck in hidden bushes under the snow. Drinking tea/coffee/chocolate with ginger cookies sitting in the snow sharing stories was also really nice. Loved it all!
