Overview

This is the perfect Golden Circle self drive combo tour. Nature lovers shouldn't miss this unique opportunity to experience the extreme cold and extreme heat Iceland can offer! Start your day with an exciting snorkeling adventure in the glacial water that fills the Silfra tectonic crack and then warm up in one of the original geothermal baths of the country. On this self-driving tour we will take you snorkeling between the continents in century-old, crystal clear glacial water. For about 30-45 minutes you will float between two continents and observe the fascinating rock formations and mesmerizing colors the 100m+ visibility can offer. After the snorkeling tour, you will drive for about 30 minutes to reach the famous Laugarvatn Fontana Geothermal Pool. This is a renovated natural pool that offers the whole geothermal experience, including saunas, steam rooms and a geothermal lake where the most adventurous are welcome to take a dip.

Meeting points

After you have entered Thingvellir National Park, turn onto road #361. After the 3rd right you will see the Silfra car park. Drive a little further to parking lot P5 to park and walk back to meet our guides. Laugarvatn Fontana is a 30-minute drive from Silfra in the village of Laugarvatn.

Itinerary

    Once your snorkeling group of max 6 people has been formed, your guide will give you your drysuit, warm undersuit and snorkeling equipment. Your guide will explain how to use this equipment and how to ensure that you will be warm and comfortable during your tour. You can change in our heated Changing Van and the guide will help you with putting all the gear on. Your guide will brief you on Silfra and safety as well as information about Thingvellir national park, the tectonic plates and the continents. The briefing and gearing up takes approx 1 hour. You will walk 5 minutes to Silfra and start your 30 - 45 minute snorkeling tour of the Big crack, Silfra Hall, Silfra Cathedral, and Silfra Lagoon. After snorkeling in the cold water, we warm you up with hot cocoa and cookies. You will then drive for about 30 min to Laugarvatn Fontana Geothermal Baths, where you will spend as much time as you like relaxing in the hot tubs, saunas and steam baths.

  • All participants will need to fill out a medical form before participating in the tour. The form can be filled out online
  • All participant's height, weight and age information must be provided to local operator to ensure they bring the best fitting drysuit. The tour operator will contact you after booking to ask for this information.
  • IMPORTANT - Participants over 60 years of age must have their doctor sign the approval form in order to participate
  • Drysuits are worn over your own clothing. We recommend wearing long thermal underwear and thick wool socks as a base layer under the dry suit
  • Minimum height is 4ft 11in (150cm). Minimum weight is 100lbs (45kg).
  • Maximum height and weight is 6ft7in (200cm) and 264lbs (120kg).
  • Participants must be comfortable in water and able to swim, physically fit and healthy
  • Please note that that dry suits can sometimes feel quite tight and constricting
  • All participants must be able to communicate in English
  • Not suitable for pregnant women
  • All participants must be at least 12 years old

This trip was incredible - a once in a lifetime experience! I was worried about being cold but the thermal underwear, under layer and dry suit kept me warm -only thing that got cold was my lips. But the experience, scenery and crystal clear water was worth it! Quim was an amazing guide - funny, informative and helpful and really connected with our 6 person group. Highly recommend!

A great activity

It was with some trepidation that we arrived at the site on a cold February morning but I can say that the snorkeling was well worth the slight discomfort of the bulky suits. Shout out to our guide James who made the whole experience run smoothly. That pictures he took of us during our time in the water came out looking just as good as the promotional images on their website.

Wonderful snorkel

We had a perfect snorkeling tour thanks to the amazing and kind team at diving.is. Especially our guide Boris made us feel at ease. He was wonderful, and made our snorkel very comfortable and one of the best experiences ever! Ps: we were much less cold than we expected. We wore one thermal wool underlayer and extra thick socks which was perfect. The tour provides good equipment and they insure you‘re wearing everything properly so you stay dry. Bring a small towel for afterwards and a change of socks/sweater to be safe, but normally only your head and hands will get wet (& cold). Would definetely recommend Boris & the entire group. The Thermal spa was also lovely afterwards and everything worked great.

Perfect day for winter in iceland

Silfra was stunning!! The water was clear und the light was good, our Guide David was really really nice and funny. The temperature wasn‘t as bad as we thought. The temperature outside was way colder so in the water it was actually fine (2degree in the water, -12 outside). And after enjoying the warm water in the spa was perfect. Additionally to everything we got to see the nothern lights while sitting in the warm water!!
