Overview

The Sicilian Pantry is a family run cookery school located in the heart of the Historical centre of Palermo. We offer daily market tours & cookery lessons of traditional Sicilian dishes. We meet in the morning at one of Palermo’s oldest markets, shop around for any items we will need for the lesson and then stroll to the air-conditioned school kitchen where we prepare a 4 course Sicilian meal, learning the techniques & tricks needed to recreate it when you return home. After the lesson we can sit down together to enjoy our efforts along with a selection of Sicilian wines rounded off with some homemade liqueurs & coffee We believe that the true expression of Sicilian cuisine comes from the quality of its fresh seasonal produce so we strive to always ensure that we have the best of what Sicily has to offer in order to share this with our guests This is an entertaining and informative day out, recommended for cooks of all levels We meet at 10:00 & lessons typically end around 14:30

Itinerary

Meet near Porta Carini, the entrance to the fabulous Mercato del Capo. Head into the market to pick up anything we need for the lesson, then we walk to the air-conditioned kitchen to prepare a 4 course meal of seasonal Sicilian dishes, made up of a starter, a pasta dish, a main course and desert. Then we all sit down to enjiy what we have made with a selection of Sicilian wines, then we round things off with some coffee and homemade liquors.

thin meat rolls stuffed with cheese, breadcrumbs, currants and almonds, skewered, breaded and roasted, this is a family favourite in any household

slices of delicious swordfish dipped in extra-virgin olive oil and coated with breadcrumbs seasoned with fresh parsley, mint and lemon zest

Michael makes cooking fun.

We had a great time. Michael is so knowledgeable about the foods,where to get them and what to look for .My husband needed some convincing to go but once he was there he had a lot of fun and Michael made sure everyone took part in the preparation .We all learned a lot about the Sicilian culture and their traditional dishes.

Delicious and so informative!

This class was just the right size with six of us and Chef Michael and assistant Elenas. We shopped for our ingredients in an open air market. Everything was incredibly fresh and Chef explained all of the ingredients as we purchased them. It was a very short walk to the apartment with large kitchen. [Please note there is a steep flight of stairs to the apartment if you have mobility issues.] Chef made sure everyone was able to assist with each step of the meal preparation. There was great conversation and wine as we got to know each other. Finally, we sat down to a four course lunch that was so delicious and convivial. I would take this class again and again. I highly recommend it.

Absolutely fabulous experience! From visiting local markets to gather fresh ingredients to actually making the dishes, Chef Michael, his assistant and the entire experience were 12 outta 10!

I think this is the coolest cooking class in town. Michael is a very generous and professional person. They prepared a lot of delicious and simple recipes for interesting dishes for us. And we even made pasta with our own hands! I just fell in love with the process. Thank you so much for such variety and hospitality. I had an incredible time. Special thanks for the cookbook and for the conversation over lunch. It was very sweet!

Such a wonderful experience!! Michael is a delight - incredibly knowledgeable, an excellent teacher, and a pleasure to spend a few hours with talking about food. Elena also made us feel so at home. Great company, incredible food, and an awesome local look into food in Palermo. I’ll definitely be taking these recipes home to Australia! I normally travel very much on the cheap, but this was 100% worth spending some money on! I think it’s unlikely this won’t be the highlight of my trip around Italy!
