Overview

【INFORMATION】 ・This SAMURAI class is not entertainment for foreigners,tourist trap for foreigners.If you want an authentic experience, book my class. You will experience our actual SAMURAI practice. ・The number of participants is limited to 5. If you would like more than 6 , please let us know! First, you will learn the basic history of swords and how they are manufactured. You will also actually disassemble a sword to deepen their understanding of its parts. During the iai lesson,you will learn proper sword etiquette, and the basics of handling and swinging a sword. Next, using a Bokuto,you will learn how to use the curve and center ridge of the sword. After that, you will learn about offense and defense when facing an opponent using a padded sparring practice sword in a mock duel. Lastly, you will be able to try test cutting .Each guest will have the chance to try cutting two rolled up straw mats. Cutting at the correct angle will result in a cut with no resistance to the blade.

The dojo is on the 3rd floor. Please come to the 3rd floor using the stairs on the left side of the sword shop. Late arrivals will inconvenience other guests, so please arrive 10-15 minutes before the start time. Please let us know in advance if you will be using this experience for filming.

We will send you an email after your reservation is confirmed, so please be sure to check your email. If you do not receive the email, please check your spam folder. Discover real samurai training with this experience that is not entertainment for foreigners. Join samurai training in a real dojo. Gain insight into the art of swordsmanship through a three-part class {iai, kendo (gekken), slash (test cutting)}. In the iai lesson, you will learn how to handle and swing the sword. In the gekken lesson, you will learn the timing of attack and defense, and spar with a practice sword. In the test cutting lesson, you will cut two targets using a real sword. In the real cutting, each person will be given two targets, and the first target is a practice to cut the second one well. Your instructor will give you advice on how to improve your technique before you attempt to cleanly cut a second target. If you manage to cut the target correctly, you will get a real feel for the sharpness of the Japanese sword.

Highlight of my trip!!

100/10 recommend!! It was the highlight of my trip, Sumida-sensei is very knowledgeable and an amazing teacher. He taught us the history of the samurai and taught us how to properly handle a real katana. Class was super fun and is 100% worth it!

Yoshioki Sumida is a real master of sword, who introduced us to the word of Japanese martial arts. It was an unforgettable experience, grateful for this opportunity.

The Sharpness of the Japanese Sword!!

Sumida sensei is the real deal. Samurai training doesn't come more real than this class. We learned history, we learned how to assemble and disassemble a sword. We sparred, and we cut. I even plan on resuming my training in White Plains, come March. So I can TRULY understand the sharpness of the Japanese sword!

One of the best experiences my brother and I had on our trip to Japan. This is not just a "samurai experience" this is real sword training in a real dojo! Sumida and the rest are excellent teachers, and are great at making you feel welcome in their dojo. You can feel the genuine appreciation they have for the art of japanese swordsmanship in the teaching of the class. The class takes place about an hour away from the tokyo city center, so give plenty of time for travel. We arrived early on a Sunday morning, so as a bonus we were able witness morning training. We will be recommending this experience to everyone we know travelling to tokyo, it was worth every penny!
