Overview

【INFORMATION】 ・This SAMURAI class is not entertainment for foreigners,tourist trap for foreigners.If you want an authentic experience, book my class. You will experience our actual SAMURAI practice. ・The number of participants is limited to 5. If you would like more than 6 , please let us know! First, you will learn the basic history of swords and how they are manufactured. You will also actually disassemble a sword to deepen their understanding of its parts. During the iai lesson,you will learn proper sword etiquette, and the basics of handling and swinging a sword. Next, using a Bokuto,you will learn how to use the curve and center ridge of the sword. After that, you will learn about offense and defense when facing an opponent using a padded sparring practice sword in a mock duel. Lastly, you will be able to try test cutting .Each guest will have the chance to try cutting two rolled up straw mats. Cutting at the correct angle will result in a cut with no resistance to the blade.

The dojo is on the 3rd floor. Please come to the 3rd floor using the stairs on the left side of the sword shop. Late arrivals will inconvenience other guests, so please arrive 10-15 minutes before the start time. Please let us know in advance if you will be using this experience for filming.

We will send you an email after your reservation is confirmed, so please be sure to check your email. If you do not receive the email, please check your spam folder. Discover real samurai training with this experience that is not entertainment for foreigners. Join samurai training in a real dojo. Gain insight into the art of swordsmanship through a three-part class {iai, kendo (gekken), slash (test cutting)}. In the iai lesson, you will learn how to handle and swing the sword. In the gekken lesson, you will learn the timing of attack and defense, and spar with a practice sword. In the test cutting lesson, you will cut two targets using a real sword. In the real cutting, each person will be given two targets, and the first target is a practice to cut the second one well. Your instructor will give you advice on how to improve your technique before you attempt to cleanly cut a second target. If you manage to cut the target correctly, you will get a real feel for the sharpness of the Japanese sword.

Amazing!!

We had the most amazing time! We learnt so much about the Japanese sword, we were trained extensively on how to properly handle them and at the end we got to practice ourselves. They helped us get changed into traditional outfits which added to the experience. It was truly the highlight of our trip! I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun adventure!

Fantastic Samurai experience

This is a fantastic experience, Sumida is very knowledgable, experienced and skillful, he actually descends from a samurai background. It was very interesting to learn about the weapons and how to use them. The sparring is great and you also get to use the katana for real. It's harder than it looks but is very fun and rewarding. I would highly recommend this to fellow travelers.

The experience was phenomenal. Sensei was friendly and professional and the day was well structured, educational, enjoyable and unforgettable. It combined historical and theoretical learning with practical exercises, team sparring and the grass mat cutting. I would highly recommend joining. This was a highlight of our time in Japan.

I am so glad that I signed up for this class. Yoshiiki Sumida delivered on everything promised, and more. He said it well, this is not a tourist trap. The instruction was clear and well done. To my amazement, I was able to cut the rolled tatami mat several times. I never even held a sword before this class. This is one of the most memorable parts of my trip.

Had an amazing training experience, also learning some history, technique, sparring. My favorite was being able to use a real sword for cutting. Absolutely exhilarating, and I would do it again if I had the time. Highly recommended!
