Overview

The Botanical Garden & Ethnographic Park Pirámides de Güímar, nominated for the 2017 European Museum of the Year Award, is a large open-air museum that gathers several open-air routes and specialized gardens around six pyramidal structures oriented towards the sun on key astronomical dates. The facilities of the Ethnographic Park, which covers more than 64,000m2, include the Casa Chacona Museum, the Auditorium and four outdoor routes (the Botanical Route, the Exportations Route, the Cultural Route and the Volcanic Route). Discover also the the Sustainable Garden, an attractive space that reproduces throughout 1,000m2 a typical Canarian ravine, with flowing water and the characteristic plant species found in these environments. Also, specimens of the European eel have been introduced, since it is the only freshwater fish present in the islands. Various ethnographic exhibitions, large gardens, pic nic areas, children playground, cafeteria and shop complement the services.

Superb site and museum

What a surprise! Firstly, we hired a car to get there, it's a bit far from other main attractions and the drive was approximately 40 min from Playa de las Americas. Located in a small town. The site is very educational, great set up providing a lot of information on culture and history relating to pyramids, offering interesting views on our civilisation. It was lovely to walk around, surprisingly lots to do. We also watched a movie at the auditorium, shining some light on great mysteries of our history. We got premium tickets so we visited the poison garden as well. Well worth a visit, surprisingly we agreed it was the best thing we discovered on the island.

Something a bit different

This is our second visit here. It's an absolutely fascinating experience. The gardens are really interesting including a poison garden and an orchid garden. (Only open for 20 mins 12.30 to 12.50) The pyramids are interesting as its the history of the guanches who lived in Tenerife before the Spanish settlers. My favourite part is the ethnographic museum part all about the history of the people of Easter Island. There's a replica raft made from reeds which is pretty spectacular. Something here for most I would say. Probably not small children. The cafe is so so but ok. Definitely worth €18 visit.

Great trip. Very informative. Pyramids are a must see. Kids (3 and 4 years) loved looking for chickens and lizards.
