    . Begin by visiting the Dharavi Slum. From here head straight to the plastic and metal recycling yard. Walk through narrow lanes and by-lanes, taking in the wafting aromas from local bakeries and sweet shops. Exotic smells from soap and cosmetic making units are bound to make some heads turn. Dime sized cyber cafes, locals brushing past, mass-producing tailor shops all make up for an exciting trip. Continue on listening to stories from your guide as you arrive at Kumbharwada, in Dharavi. Known to be the face of India’s largest slum dwelling, The tour through the slum's narrow alleys is quite an adventure, you will undoubtedly feel the strong sense of community and the special spirit that exists here.

Enriching Day in Amazing Mumbai

Thank you Dev for a wonderful and knowledgeable day! Starting at the amazing slum and learn that all we think about it and its people is so twisted - but not anymore. Traveling from the industrial parts, understand the economical importance of the slums and role it plays in India, then see the residential part which is something no where else to be seen - it’s a must! After that we actually saw not less than 15 sites of all kinds, historical - like Gandhi’s house, Mumbai gate and more.. cultural, hanging gardens, the amazing colorful markets, institutional buildings, Kashmir merchandise (hand made) and all came with a detailed and very knowledgeable explanations. It is so clear that Dev is totally in love with what he is doing and so passionate about sharing his wide knowledge Tips: Bring some cash money with you - you will see places, including in the slums, where you can find amazing authentic Indian merchandise- like REAL Kashmir made carpets and scarfs, spices and clothes and even hand made leather bags. Also, our driver, was very patient and kind. Highly recommended! Thank you for this experience!

Brilliant tour, well worth doing

This was an eye opener of a tour. The Dharavi slums might not sound an exciting destination, but just to see the industrious nature of the whole area where they work and live in close quarters and are entirely self sufficient is amazing. We spent a few hours walking up and down the lanes in the industrial section, in and out of tiny dark lanes in the residential section and not once were we hassled by beggars, such is the vibe in these slums. Our guide Dev could not possibly have been any more knowledgeable about the area and his passion for the people and the way they live shone thru. All the other major 'tourist' places were visited and I recommend doing the private tour just as a couple or single family, giving you more freedom on what to see and how long to stay at a particular place, a luxury you cannot afford to have if travelling with others in your group. 5* plus !!

Amazing Tour Thanks to Jaya

From the beginning the tour was excellent. Jaya is a friendly, warm host that made sure to point out any point of interest in Mumbai. She took me through several great places including the Gateway and the Gandhi museum as well as an up close look up the slums. I even got an amazing view of the train station at night since she saved that for last. Definitely highly recommend. P.S. I got to pet several dogs since the dogs love her!

Slum tour was amazing. We had So many different feelings that two hours slum visit. Tour guide Manoj was friendly and knowledgeable all visiting places given good information. Traffic was busy but Manoj drive nice and safely.
