Manar, our expert tour guide to Coptic Christian sites, and Deuce Azhar, our expert driver, provided a wonderful day of learning the culture and history of Coptic Cairo in a friendly, relaxed environment. Manar has a deep knowledge of the Coptic’s and clearly explained the architecture and symbolisms of the churches. There was a mystery around every corner because we are keen to notice features that more hurried visitors overlook. At each stop, Manar would guide us through the site, then give us free time to carefully photograph our visits. She showed great patience in allowing us to record these special memories and encouraged us to not rush but take whatever time we needed. This would not be possible on a group tour!
One site that we had seen on YouTube but had not planned to see was the unique recycling village of “Garbage City”, a large neighborhood where all manner of freight vehicles - trucks, motorcycles, hand carts, bicycles, cars - haul giant loads of materials sorted by the residents from trash piles to sell.
Manar was quick to resolve a logistics problem when we could not access our tickets to the Coptic Museum due to a technical issue. She offered us several solutions, one being a switch to a sail with lunch on a felucca on the Nile. It was a calm fantastic experience after driving through city traffic. The boat captain she arranged for us did more than pilot the boat. He entertained us, suggested photo poses and encouraged my wife and I to slow dance to his playing of Nat King Cole’s “What a Wonderful World.”
Manar suggested photos with the Cairo background and posed with us for a few lifetime memories of today in this “Wonderful World.”
We could not recommend Manar and this Viator tour more highly in your visit to Cairo. Let her and Deuce Azhar manage the hectic roads and stress of Cairo so you can do what you came for: to learn about this culture and history and enjoy Cairo.
