Oshino Hakkai (忍野八海) is a touristy set of eight ponds in Oshino, a small village in the Fuji Five Lake region, located between Lake Kawaguchiko and Lake Yamanakako on the site of a former sixth lake that dried out several hundred years ago. The eight ponds are fed by snow melt from the slopes of nearby Mount Fuji that filters down the mountain through porous layers of lava for over 80 years, resulting in very clear spring water that is revered by the locals.

Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine, also known as Chureito Pagoda (忠霊塔, Chūreitō) is a five storied pagoda on the mountainside overlooking Fujiyoshida City and Mount Fuji off in the distance. The pagoda is part of the Arakura Sengen Shrine and was built as a peace memorial in 1963 nearly 400 steps up the mountain from the shrine's main buildings. The location offers spectacular views of Mount Fuji in combination with the pagoda. The spot is particularly popular among photographers as it allows for some wonderfully stereotypical shots of Japan.

This destination will be visited only if you want to do some shopping and if you can skip a few places instead. This outdoor shopping centre allows shoppers to enjoy the views of Mt. Fuji as they take a look at the 200+ shops that are available. Not only can visitors shop, but the abundance of restaurants and food stores allows them to grab a quick meal in between shops or after finishing up a long day of shopping. This makes the Gotemba Premium Outlets a perfect location for anyone wanting to shop around and eat some delicious food at the same time.

By far the most visited of the Fuji Five Lakes, Lake Kawaguchiko serves as the main point of entry to this famous lake region. It is the second largest of the Five Lakes in terms of surface area and the second most shallow with a depth of only 14.6 meters. It has a surface elevation of approximately 830 meters, which accounts for its relatively cool summers and icy winters. Lake Kawaguchiko attracts especially many visitors in spring during cherry blossom season and in autumn when the fall foliage comes out in full force.

Ropeway charges are not included in the package. This cable car brings you up the 220 meters to the observation point and offers fantastic views of the lake as you ascend. The Mount Fuji Panoramic Ropeway ascends 400 meters from the eastern shore of Lake Kawaguchiko to an observation deck near the peak of Mount Tenjo. From the observation deck, which sits more than 1000 meters above sea level, there are panoramic views of the lake below and of Mount Fuji.

Mt Fuji was beautiful, bigger than I imagined, and the tour took us to lots of different locations. Each was as I expected (besides the crowds of tourists). Caffrey was very polite, easy to communicate with, accommodating, and knowledgeable about where we visited, giving us options we hadn’t even thought of.

“This tour was amazing! It was a perfect day to visit Mt. Fuji. The sky was clear, the mountain was perfectly visible, and it was mesmerizing! We decided to do a private tour with 4 adults & 1 kid. I would highly recommend it, because we got to customized our itinerary. Our driver Caffrey was wonderful, funny, very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable about all aspects of the tour. He was on time picking us up and kept us informed about our destinations and what to expect. He spoke English and communicated well. We visited Chareito Pagoda, Oshino Hakkai, & Gotemba Outlets. We only had about an hour at the outlet because we had to start driving back by 4pm due to traffic. Our hotel was located in Haneda. We also had to pay extra 10k yen because the location was outside of the pick up area. Overall, it was a fun trip to Mt. Fuji.

This tour was amazing! Our tour guide, John made the day very special. He found places where there were no other tourists making it feel like a very exclusive experience! John gave us history on each stop and was patient as we asked a million questions. I couldn’t thank him enough at the end!
