Overview

Watch sunrise from the top of Mount Sinai on a hiking trip from Sharm el Sheikh to one of Egypt’s highest mountains. You’ll climb the 7,497-foot (2,285-mt.) peak in the predawn darkness, see first light illuminate the mountaintop chapel and mosque, then descend to the 6th-century Monastery of St. Catherine, built where Moses is believed to have seen the Burning Bush. Itinerary

  • Sharm El Sheikh

    This tour is a bus trip to the most famous mountain on Sinai where Moses received the Ten Commandments. You will be picked up from your hotel in Sharm el Sheikh in the late evening and transferred for 3 hours to Moses Mountain. The trip starts around 19:30-21:00 from your hotel. Ends around 14:00. Our tips: - be ready for a cold weather on the top and take with you heavy clothes (gloves, hat, jacket); - you can take hot drinks with you in thermo cup and some snacks. The prices on the mountain are "touristic".

  • Mount Sinai

    At 02.00am you will then start the 3-hour climb of 2,285m up the mountain guided by one of our guides. You can climb by following a long path which leads to 700 steps. This takes you to the top of the mountain on time for the sunrise where you can enjoy a beautiful view. If you feel you can't climb the mountain , there is option to rent a camel, but the last part of the route - 750 steps to the top you have to walk.

    After getting down from the mount sinai, you will be met with your guide by the gate of the monastery, where you will visit the transfiguration Church, the burning Bush the well of the prophet Moses.

Very good experience but super hard hike

This experience is once in a life time. The sunrise is so worth the hike. Be prepared with water and good hiking shoes as well as many layers. The temperature was 24 Fahrenheit which is very cold and you need to bring gloves, hat, and many layers. The hike is strenuous and all uphill as well as the altitude being harsh. If you enjoy a challenge then this tour is for you. The Bedouin that helped my friend and I named Mohamed was amazing, he was so caring. My friend got altitude sickness but he stayed back with her and made sure she made it to the top. The tea house stops help as well, make sure you bring cash! The tour overall was well operated and very good!

A tour was great, the view from the top of the mountain was incredible, guide in the bus was awesome, made sure everything went well. Bedouins, who led the way to the top of the mountain, were great, always kept group together and made sure that nobody was left behind.

Sunrise at Mount Sinai - an awesome experience

Great experience seeing the sun rise at the summit. If you're planning to do this, keep in mind it is a mountain, and although the trail is straightforward, you'll have to ascend 2000ft at night sp careful consideration of footwear and clothing. Whilst you're walking, you'll be warm but as soon as you stop for a while (especially at the top) it will be cold so take warm clothing. You can hire blankets for 150 Egyptian pounds at the top. Our tour guides were friendly, helpful and experienced. Highly recommended!

Tough going but worth it in the end

Its hard work but the sunrise is worth it. We left hotel at 9pm and got back at 2pm the following day. Limited sleep, long coach journey and a 3-4 hour trek up the mountain in the pitch black / torchlight is not for the faint hearted. Its also very cold so dress up warm and consider paying the EÂŁ150 for a much needed blanket at the top. The wind is biting However the views of the sunrise and the walk back down in the daylight are spectacular. Monastery tour is a bit something of nothing. I'm not religious so maybe its just a bit lost on me and I was very tired by this point. Interesting enough to see but the highlight is the sunrise. Blink and you miss it as its over pretty quick so get up there in time and get a good spot for photos and travel prepared, drinks, snacks, warm clothes, good shoes.
