Join this morning sightseeing tour to Meteora and fully experience this true wonder accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide. The tour starts with a convenient pick-up (with our VIP minibus) from your hotel in Kalabaka or Kastraki. During this guided tour you will have the opportunity to see all six magnificent monasteries and admire the interior of three of them. Additionally, view some of Meteoraā€™s most spectacular hidden gems like the ancient Chapel of Doupiani and the magnificent St. George ā€œMandilasā€ cave. You will also discover the ā€œother sideā€ of Meteora, like the truth about why the hermits settled in these imposing caves a thousand years ago and how the monks achieved the ā€œimpossibleā€. If English isnā€™t your primary language, donā€™t worry! We also offer free audio guides in Spanish, French, and Italian. Last but not least, take the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views and capture some amazing photos that you will cherish forever.

  • Kastraki (Pass By)

At the bottom of the Holy Meteora Rocks and not far from Kalambaka is located Kastraki (translated as small castle in Greek). This picturesque village took its name from a small Byzantine castle, whose ruins are still saved today.

  • Saint Nicholas Monastery

The Monastery of Saint Nicholas of Anapafsas is literally suspended in air on a small rock and is the first monastery that we meet on our way from Kastraki village to the stone forest of Holy Meteora.

    20 minutes

  • Roussanou Monastery

The Roussanou Monastery, also known as Arsani, stands on top of an impressive vertical and steep cliff of Meteora, between the Monasteries of Saint Nicholas Anapafsas and Varlaam.

    1 hour

  • Great Meteoron Monastery

The Monastery of Great Meteoron or Transfiguration of Christ, expresses the greatness and history of the Holy Meteora, as it is the oldest and most important monastery.

    1 hour

  • Varlaam Monastery

The Varlaam Monastery or Monastery of All the Saints is located on an imposing rock exactly opposite of the Great Meteoron and it is the second largest monastery of Meteora.

    1 hour

  • Holy Trinity Monastery (Agia Triada)

The Monastery of the Holy Trinity is the third oldest monastery in Meteora and is the most difficult to reach, since visitors should cross a downhill path and then ascend 145 steps carved into the rock. It is said that the first hermits used a rope ladder and a net to build it and they spent 70 years to carry the all the materials needed.

    20 minutes

  • N/A

The Monastery of Saint Stephenā€™s (Agios Stefanos) is located just above the city of Kalambaka and is the most accessible monastery in Meteora, as there are no steps to reach the entrance and the access is easy through a small stone bridge.

An Honest Reccomendation from a Tour Non-Believer

Published on Sep, 2024

I was very impressed by the tour. Our guide, I believe his name was Yorgos, was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. I felt like I learned so much, even before we reached the stunning viewpoints. I don't normally do tours, as I like to take my time to explore sights, but I felt like this one was well worth it. Obviously, I would've loved more time at each monastery and viewpoint, but ultimately, I was very satisfied. Three monasteries is more than enough, as they become very similar by the end of the tour, and you will be tired of all the stairs... They also took us to by other sites in the area and gave us plenty of history about the region and the origins of the monasteries. By the end of the tour, we had seen so many incredible vistas that were worth the price of the tour themselves- which was very reasonable btw. It was a great way to explore Meteora without needing your own transportation. It felt like I had seen all of Meteora by the end of the tour; a truly incredible experience I won't forget! You will be picked up in town in the morning, comfortably transported in an air conditioned van, and taken from monastery to monastery, stopping along the way at awe-inspiring viewpoints where they let you out to take pictures. Trust me, you will get plenty of time to take those Instagram photos! They even gave us each a bottle of water which was nice given the heat of the day. I fully recommend Meteora Trip for your Meteora tour!

Magnificent Meteora morning tour!

Published on Sep, 2024

Our tour guide, Vasilios, was super informative about the area and the history of the monasteries. We were able to tour the interiors of 3 and view the remainder from spectacular spots along the winding road above. George, our driver, also answered many questions when we stopped for photos in addition to using his exceptional driving skills on the narrow winding roads. The monasteries were breathtaking and the photos I had seen before this tour did not come close to revealing the magnificence of their beauty. The work done by the monks to create these awe inspiring buildings is hard to comprehend. This tour is a must for anyone visiting Meteora!
