Overview

Visit the famous Skistho's Dog Shelter up in the hills , pick up a lovely dog and join our experienced 'hiker' guide for a beautiful walk through the hills. Where you will have the opportunity to to enjoy the breath-taking scenery and nature, whilst giving a dog a well deserved walk . Next stop is Maria's house a Greek local lady who is passionate about Greek food and cooking. You will learn how to cook traditional Greek dishes and you will enjoy a delicious lunch in a peaceful and tranquil surrounding served with local wine , water and soft drinks.     In the midst of the lush hills on the island of Skiathos a group of volunteers have created a haven for stray dogs that are looking for their forever homes. To give the dogs a safe place and a location, that would provide both cool winds during hot summer days, privacy and calmness in the evenings. The local monastery (Evangelistria), has offered a piece of land out of town the Islands Landfill site.

Fantastic experience!

I visited here August 2004. What a great couple of hours it was. My partner and I were on holiday in Koukonaries and already had a wonderful Donkey Sanctuary on our doorstep run by a German lady. We made the decision to visit this beautiful dog rescue centre situated high up in the mountains. On arrival, the two Scottish ladies who own the rescue centre make all volunteer walkers very welcome and assess them as to what size of dogs they would be best suited for walking around the mountain path. We were lucky to have two beautiful dogs named Gary & Chesney. Gary was quite old black Labrador and Chesney looked like a cross whippet. Both were very familiar with the route and showed us the way. Chesney managed to slip his collar off half way round and ran all the way home ahead of us. We donated a large sack of dog biscuits before we left and gave a cash donation too for good measure. Anything you give is greatly appreciated. Well done to the lovely Scottish ladies who run the shelter. You deserve reward for your efforts. Steve Holman & Colin Powell

We had tour guide Jane and she was lovely. Told us great facts and made us feel welcomed. The dog hike was wonderful, it did get cut short due to being extremely hot but we got to cuddle and grooms dogs after. Later that we had a wonderful home made dishes made by a native Greek called Maria. She even signed her own cooking book for us which was available to purchase, filled with tasty looking dishes.

Dog walkies followed by a fantastic greek cooking demonstration and lunch!

This was a TUI trip and began with a trip to the dog shelter, Skiathos. Established many years ago now, we were able to take an abandoned puppy or fully grown dog on a guided walk. Great fun! followed by a visit to Carma restaurant in Agia Paraskevia where Maria gave a demonstration of her homemade Greek cooking and then we got to eat what was demonstrated. Generous portions and a free drink! Would do again.
