If you want to discover Mahon harbour, the main attractions of Menorca and a lot of history with it, in a relaxing manner then do spend the €50 or so for this trip. It is definitely worth it. You get collected from your hotel or nearest bus stop, early start and some hotels do not provide packed lunch even if on all inclusive deal but I am certain you can make yourself a sandwich at breakfast or buy one on the go. You will arrive in Mahon where you have time to visit the local Gin distillery for a browse and testing of a variety of gin. Don’t need to pay to go in and no need to buy either. You will then be taken round the harbour (all 5km of it) by the SAN Joan boat ( with glass bottom to view the local marine life).
After that you have time in Mahon town itself before heading to Binibeca, a village of white washed houses built in the 50s . Here you will experience life you have never seen before , very small streets and close knit community even if 50% of houses are built only for holiday makers. If you hate your neighbours in this village then there is no escaping them.... you will understand why once there.
You are then taken to see the caves of Xoroi, simply beautiful and breath taking views. These turn into a bar at night time. You are given a complimentary drink when you get to the bottom and do not worry about the many steps, I have limited mobility and are overweight and still did them with no problems. We had the only double decker bus on the island and our driver was Miguel while the guide was Annemarie, a very knowledgeable English lady who spoke the best Queen’s English ever. Not sure how long she has lived in Me orca but has nothing to envy the locals and her knowledge is second to none. Thank you Annemarie and well done to Jet2, as tour operators.
