Iglesia y Convento La Merced

The Minor Basilica and Convent of Nuestra Señora de la Merced is a church located in Lima, Peru. It was designed in the Baroque style. The church was built under the supervision of Friar Miguel de Orenes in 1535. The Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy (the patroness of the Peruvian Armed Forces) is venerated in the Basilica. The Mercedarians (who evangelized the region) helped to develop Lima by building many of the churches preserved today.

The Basilica Cathedral of Lima, otherwise Lima Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in the Plaza Mayor of downtown Lima, Peru. Construction began in 1535 and completed in 1649. It is dedicated to St John, Apostle and Evangelist.

Excellent tour of the hiistoric cith of Lima

We ended up having a private tour. Our guide, Phillipe, was fantastic. His English was execellent and he is very knowledgeable. We enjoyed his stories and seeing the city of Lima thorug his proud eyes.

FILEPE WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE. WE ENJOYED OUR TOUR VERY MUCH. HE TOOK THE TIME TO SHOW US SO MUCH AND EVEN JOINED US FOR LUNCH AT THE END. HIGHY RECOMMEND THIS TOUR OF THE CATACOMBS AND CITY.
