Itinerary

  • Elterwater

    Our walk starts at Elterwater village, and from here we head to the lake of the same name.

  • Skelwith Force Waterfall

    Skelwith Force, our first waterfall of the day.

    15 minutes

  • Skelwith Bridge

    We pass through Skelwith Bridge with a chance to pop in to Chesters, a well regarded vegan cafe, to pick up a sweet treat!

    30 minutes

  • N/A

    We follow the River Brathay to Colwith Force, our second waterfall of the day.

    30 minutes

  • Little Langdale

    Our walk then takes us through Little Langdale through farms and views.

  • Cathedral Quarry (Cathedral Cave)

    Enter the spectacular Cathedral Cave, an old quarry site and now popular tourist spot. Appreciate the huge cavern and learn about the history of quarrying in Langdale and the Lake District. After a look around we stop for lunch overlooking Little Langdale.

  • Great Langdale

    Pass through Great Langdale and learn about the people, culture and history, including how the valley was formed by enormous and powerful glaciers thousands of years ago!

A beautiful walk with a top flight guide

We can’t thank Jamie enough for providing us with a simply wonderful walking tour around The Langdales. The length of the walk was just right and we really appreciated the accessibility of each stage. The variety of landscapes was just beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed the stop for coffee and cake along the way. The fact that there were gluten and dairy free homemade cakes as an option, was an additional bonus. Having a guide to take the stress out of planning the route and who knows the area so well, made all the difference. The amount of information about the landscape and local history which Jamie told us about, was just perfect. Jamie is a fantastic communicator and was an absolute delight to spend some time with. We highly recommend this walk.

I went on this fantastic walk yesterday with Jamie and his lovely dog. I am sure this walk would be good any time of year but it was particularly beautiful with all the autumn colours. The walk was comfortably paced and covered a varied terrain. It also included a coffee stop with delicious cakes! I would not have done this walk on my own so appreciated the opportunity to do it with a knowledgeable, friendly guide. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Lake District.

Just returned from a wonderful walk with Jamie and his gorgeous dog. This was a perfect time of year to do this walk with all the beautiful autumnal colours. The walk was comfortably placed with lots of scenic highlights along the way including a visit to a lovely cafe with delicious cakes. I would never have done this walk alone but thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to see such stunning scenery. I highly recommend this trip for anyone visiting the Lake District.

Jamie was the best tour guide ever! I had a fantastic time getting to explore the sights and sounds of Lake District. He was so knowledgeable about the natural and cultural history of this place. Enjoyed his company very much. Highly reccomend his trips!

After checking out of our Ambleside accommodation, we had a great walk with Jamie around Elterwater and Langdale. This well planned walk enabled us to explore this new area of the Lake District-lots of interesting info and hidden gems . Jamie is open and friendly and made our last day a memorable one. Thoroughly recommended !
