Overview

This is a tour designed for travelers, who seek to step further than most and feel like real explorers. Combine ice cave visit with an adventurous glacier hike, as you venture deep into the glacier hidden from the crowds. You will also visit the popular ice caves, but at less crowded time. The tour starts with a 40 min 4x4 ride to the glacier. First we visit an ice cave and spend one hour exploring it. We always try to visit the best cave available, but the choice may vary throughout the winter. This year the most beautiful cave is called Sparkle Ice Cave. However there might come conditions when entering it would be too hazardous. You can be sure that we will inform you if the conditions change. After the ice cave visit we will gear up for the glacier hike. Expect to spend up to 3 hours hiking. If the weather is good we will should see stunning sites, such as ice canyons, calving site, crevasses and moulins. You will come back feeling like an accomplished explorer!

You will find a 4x4 minibus branded with Ice Walkers Tours logo at the main parking lot of the lagoon.

Amazing tour

An amazing tour on the Vatnajökul glacier. About 4h30 on the glacier and the ice cave. Our guide took us to the best spot on the edge of the glacier with a great view on the jokusarlon lagoon. Martin was very nice and explained everything about the history of the glacier. The 4 frenchies.

The views were amazing!!! Our guides were knowledge and so so generous and kind. They helped us feel prepared and totally safe the entire time. Marty and Ola were both wonderful. They both stopped at various times to help travelers from other groups struggling with their crampons. They showed us many locations and took us to a beautiful cave. I’ll be recommending to any friends and family I know that come to Iceland. I felt like we had a private more “local” feel compared to the mega buses in the lot as well.

We weren’t able to go on a tour with this company but I did my research and they are a nice, local, small scale company. Carefully of the massive tour companies or tour company aggregates …. I think the experience would have been amazing. I communicated with them a lot and they were prompt and helpful. Very sorry we couldn’t make the experience happen.
